THE DAILY SUN. Tucbodat Mobmiho Noyembeb U bc^New Advertisements ahcayt found on First Poos; Loctl and Business Notices on Fourth Page. THE CAPITOL,. In the Senate the cl ief attraction yes terday was Mr. Brown’s resolntions re questing the Snb Ku-Klux Committee, now in tliia city, to summon, as witnesses, all the Judges of the Superior Courts of this State. This ought to have met with no opposition, especially from the Radi cal side of the Senate, particularly as a majority of the judges are of the Repub lican way of thinking, bnt it did. One Campbell opposed it, and so did Senator Brock. The latter insists that there lawlessness in his District. He persists in insisting that his constituents are law less and disorderly. But, if they are, how is it that Brock represents them in the Senate 1 That is a matter of some concern to know. If his .people are as lawless as he represents them to be, cer tainly it would not be safe for a man of his shade of politics to attempt to do their legislating. Campbell also says there is lawlessness in his District. This the publio believes to be true. It has had testimony of the fact; and if further testimony were need ed, it can be found upon the docket of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Oeorgia, where there is an indictment pending against certain negro Notary Public for a piece of high-handed lawlessness. Senator Candler spoke in favor of the resolutions, and, for a time, awakened the old fires that were wont to flash through the Senate Chamber during the last Legislature. A sensation in.the House was the ao- tion upon a bill to change the line be tween McIntosh and Liberty counties. This occasioned a lively controversy; but the question does not threaten to assume an international importance, nor is it lia ble to be considered worthy of being brought before the Sub-Committee on Ku-klnz. Mr. Jackson, we observe, has intro duced a bill which proposes to amplify Atlanta to the extent of a Recorder and an Auditor. We shall have a note t make of this hereafter. SUN-STROKES. (S' The Marianna (Fla.) Courier in stalls Henry Conley Governor of Georgia. Hi?* William Cullen Bryant was 77 last Wednesday. Perhaps he is the com ing centenuarian. gffi. “ Mr. Grant” is what the Hart ford Times calls him. How irreverent these Connecticut fellows can be. tin California opposes Good Tcm- plarism by a vintage of 8,000,000 of gallons for the present year. B®. It is pretty hard on Goorgia Re publicans that .tbo "President had to go all tho way to New Hampshire’for a suc- eessor to Krjzoowski. Bffi. "A fox should not bo on the jury when a goose is .on trial,” quotes an ex change. In most trials of importance the foxes are generally defendants, while the geese are jin the jury box. The Columbia Phenix arises from its ashes and says, “To be plundered by Scott A Co. and then punished by Grant & Co. is hard to bear.” One might rea sonably think so. “Guesses at Truth" is the caption of the Courier-Journal leader on the 7th. The C.-J. has been guessing at truth for tho past six months and it is safe to say It has guessed wrong every time. MB, The Washington Chronicle says “John A. Madden, of Georgia, has been appointed a first-class clerk in tho con tract office, Postofflee Department.”— Madden ft rememborod in Atlanta. M&, A lame little paper, published down the Macon Road, speaking of Sen ator Lester’s bill to farm ont the Stato Printing to tho lowest bidder, has this to say: U this could be done, we think the movement a good one; but we cannot now cohceiye how an intelligent propo sal for this work could be made, nor how a bidder could moke a sensib.'qj'id, from the fact that it is now utterly impos tible to tell how much printing is to be dene. And if a bid is to be made on ea -h job. the wheels of legislation would not only be clogged, but a permanent salaried commission would have to be appointed to superintend this important branch of public expenditure. If the writer of the paragraph knew anything about the bounces in which he is engaged, he could very easily see “how an intelligent proposal for this work could be made;” but knowing very little about the printing business, he is unable to sec what is perfectly apparent to every intel ligent printer. It is strange that men will attempt to write npon subjects of which they understand least. GEORGIA MATTERS. • Murder neab Montezuma, —We heard yesterday the particulars of a most bru tal and oold blooded murder which oc curred near Montezuma a few days ago. A Mr. &Mtt had been to Montezuma and gotten brutally drunk. In the afternoon, as he was returning home in his wagon, be met a negro man and woman going to a field in which they were employed picking cotton. Without any provoca tion whatever, he cocked bis pistol, which was already in bis hand, and fired it off toward the negroes. The liall passed through the bowels of the negro woman, inflicting a fatal wound from which she died in a few hours. The negro man (her husband) cameimmediatelv to town and had a warrant taken out for Soott. He was arrested by the Sheriff, and so great was the feeling of indignation among both white and black, that a guard had to be placed over him during the night to prevent his tieiug lynched A preliminary trial was hail the day follow ing, and he was committed to jail to await trial at the Superior Court Scott avowed an entire ignorance of the oc currence, of which none who saw him when he left town had any doubt The above we find in the Macon Tele graph of Tuesday. It is a sad occur rence, and one that all good peo] should deplore, both because of atrocity of the crime—for which whisky is no palliation or excuse—and because of the almost absolute certainty that is to be distorted, by the enemies Georgia, into another Kuklux outrage. Tho jieople were justy indignant toward tho murderer, but it is well that their purpose to execute summary revenge was restrained. It would have only in creased thu harm likely to grow out of the affair. Since Scott is iu custody, lei him be tried and punished as the law di rects. The Cartersville Semi-Weekly Stand ard and Express comes “jist a-booming.’ Bartow farmers are sowing wheat Says the Cartersville Express: A white man, in a stato of intoxication, was run over and killed by a train of cam on the Cherokee Railroad, just this aide of the Stileeboro Depot, on Friday last His name was Lovell. “Robins on toast” is a delicacy pecu liar to Forsyth. The Monroe Advertiser says: chicken was killed by a manumitted citi zen the other day, and when dressed pin was found imbedded in its gizzard. Pin-feathers ore all right, but pin-gizzards are not exactly the thing.” Since it got all of these premiums, the Monroe Advertiser does not say potatoes any more, but call ’om “tubers." Mr. James Williams, of Monroe coun ty, died last Sunday, aged 102. “Next The Monroo Advertiser of yesterday says: A cutting affray occurred Saturday afternoon in front of Mays’ drug store, between John Cochran and Berry Dew berry, the former inflicting a severe and dangerous wound upon the person of the latter. The knife entered the left side, severing an artery. This it was thought at the time would provo fatal, bet we were leased to learn yesterday afternoon that Ir. D. was improving, and in a fair way to recover. The difficulty grew out of ebusiness trar sac lion, involving the in significant Bum of sever ty-five cents. Mrs. Catharine Douglas, a beautiful young widow lady of Walker county, was drowned ore day last week while attemp ting to crossDuck creek in shaggy. Her young brc. .her, Wm. C. Howell, barely escaped. The Superior Court of Bibb county is adjourned for the week, to allow Judge Cole an opportunity to answer a subpena to appear before the Ku-klux Committee. Hon. Clifford Anderson has writteu a card declining to allow the use of his his name as a candidate for Governor. Even if he were willing to become a can didate ho is not eligible.
