" The tnweeti gallon (if the lingo fraud*
m and plundering* of the people under the
.‘’AhMintondenoy of the State Road by
CapL Blodgett, will bo on* of the moat
important, and require more oaeaful and
thorough proceeding*, than any other—
not excepting the misuse of the fund*
and bond* of th* State, which are alleged
.g.;—* Kimball. Bullock, Clew* k Co.
ka before stated, this, and all such in
rgatigatym. bbuqlii, in on judgment, be
made by a joint oqmmiUeo of tho two
Bouses of the Legislature, and, we beliese,
this is the prerailing opinion among
the members of the Legislature. The
proposition, honestly advocated by torn#,
bat invented and suggested for a sinister
motive by those who desire to prevent
investigation—to appoint an ootaide ooin-
mitte* to make this investigation—we
believe, meets with no favor. Whatever
is done, should be dono by the members
themselves, who will be directly respon
sible to their constituents.
But the committee should hare what
ever clerical and legal aid may be ueero-
aary; and, in obtaining such assistance,
the oommitteo will, of eoune, select that
which will be most effleient and most
surely facilitate the investigation. No
one on earth knows as mnoh about the
State Road books aa Msj. 0. P. McCall*|
and hail kb* only man who was oooaeot-
ed with tli* Road, who is disposed to
tall wbst he knows—not only of the or-
taisa ooAke books, bat tbeir unwritten
history—wrnd, of coarse, his services
should be St'onoe secured., ,
And then souse Ibdlroad man of ability,
iuUgrity and siperienco—such a* Col. L
P. Grant—should, also, be secured to as
sist in the investigation. With a good
Committee of the two Housos, and such
eturirad matstance as we have named,
there would be no difficulty in probing
the mUTtWR) the bottom'.

State, (so-called;) a party whieh has no
sense of shame, and who gloat in their
own moral turpitude; who commenced

Texas has redeemed herself; has elected
the entire Democratic ticket throughout
the State. Radicalism and public thieving
are doomed in Texas forever. They will
pass away with all their corruption into
an ignominious oblivion. Then honest

be held soon for members of Legislature
and other offioes.
We with the .people of Georgia and
the South, who are in quest of homes, to
come to Texas. We nave an sbundanoe
of room for them. Bell connty can sup
ply 30,000 families. Wo have a popula

can scarcely find them over oar vast

fluids can be purchased from one to five
dollars per aoro.itbal will produoe from
25 to 00 bushels of gem per acre, and
from tbsea-fourtha to two bales of cotton;
improved lands from live to fifteen dol

We hare, perhaps, the beat watered
county in the State. We have the Lam
pasas* and Leon river* running through
tho county, besides a soon of large
crocks, springs and email rivulet* in ev
ery direction; grass, winter and summer;
no cattle to feed In winter, or save fod
der in summer; timber sufficient for all
purposes; rock, for building purposes,
perfectly inexhaustible—said rook easily
quarried and dressed to any shape, and
in a short time becomes hard and lasting.
Bell oounty possesses another groat ad
vantage, that is, being in the center of the
State, consequently the canter of the great
thoroughfare of travel from Northern
to Southern, Eastern and Western Tex
as. In a short time we will bar* the M
K. and Texas Railroad running through
Ballon, the county scat of Bell county.
Besides, a railroad has been chartered

Athena ns ('aunty Site of Clark
, County.
A petition signed by 1,400 citizens of
Clark county, ie now before the Legisla
ture, praying for tho removal of the oourt
bouse from WatkinsviU* to Athena.
Among the many reasons presented, this
multitado of petitioner* urge that the
removal i* essential to the prosperity of
the county; that they consult the interest
of two-third* of the citizens, represent
ing five-sixths *f the taxable property in
the oonnty. In *upport of these views,
they present the facts that Athens con
tains 5,000 inhabitants, Watkina-
vilie 200; that at Athena is con
oentreted nearly all the commercial,
civil 'and ednoatiount interests in the
county; that Athens is ths commercial
metropolis of Northeast Georgia; nine-
tenths of tha litigation of tba oonnty
belongs to the city, and it is mot* conve
nient and Atetouhto as the oonnty site
socially, commercially and edaeatioaally.
These ore the pleas of-the petitioners.
The ease, ww aoderstand, will be acted
on immediately. ~~
