A motion m made in tlie House yes
terday to havs reconsidered the action of
Saturday declaring that no election had
been had In Oalhoon county. The Mo
tion, as it was explained, wee made in
order to giro Mr. Pierce Urn* to get ap
awon testimony. We do not See how
such sworn legal taeMninay eoald be got
ten up, in the iaee el attested '{
ready stated; therefore, we think the
Hones did precisely right in refusing to
reconsider. The best thing for Mr.

again in As capacity of candidate, and
if they want hfqt to represent them, they
will vote for hint- Ail other proono^inga

The fasti on of fer diem has not yet
been settled fay the Assembly. Weob

necessary steps yesterday to here s bill
brought ap to-day looking to e reduction
of wages. This is a matter that] wiD
strongly test the disposition of our legis

here long enough now to understand
what aw the ordinary expand of law
making; hence w« expect to see a mate
rial reduetioa bom the estimate that the
last Legislature placed upon the value of
its own serrieea. We do not think there
is a man now in aUher branch who holds
that ha is worth nine dollars a day to the
State; or, if there is, we think he will be
too modest and too eoonomical to de
mand ft.

of the former. The Judiciary Commit

the subject, (he House adjourned. This
is a meat important mattes, and should be

He Congressional sub-oommittee,

have finished their travels. The States
visited by them were Florida and Geor

none of the oommittee are prepared to
recommend that any stringent measure be
inaugurated so far as these localities are
concerned.
It seems probable then that Georgia is
to escape the scourge that baa been vis

reports circulated hen sons two weeks
ago were without foundation and utterly
wicked. The evidence grows that these
reports were the mouthinga of some in
