When H. 1 Kimball sold the Opera House to the State of Goorgia there was a mortgage of 060,000 upon it—which mortgage is still unpaid. This mortgage was for that amount of money loaned to Kimball by the North Western Mutual Life Iaturanoe Company, to enable him to pay the purchase money, and assist in the building. That mortgayc it Hill utualitJUrl. Not a cent of the principal has ever been paid, end the interest on it since May L*t is duo. Bulloek knew that uior!g<ge was ■tgwiast the property when it was pur led by the Legislature. Kimball knew it was unsatisfied when he deeded it to the State, warranting it to be free from all liens. Bullock paid Robert H. Brown 8000 to investigate the title, and acoeptad hit opinioi that die title was good. Mr. Brown most have known of the mortgage, for his law partner at the time, Judge Hopkins, knew it. The Life Insurance Company named, of whiohDr. Wm. H. White it the effi cient agent in this city, loaned this mon ey here, and in addition to tha security of the mortgage on the property, re quired the building on it to be kept in sured, in tbs sum of 860,000, and the policies properly assigned to the North- Western Mutual. Bollock has ^een keep ing op this Fire Insurance, paying the premiums with dm people's mouey, and specifying on the face of the policies, that the loss, if any ahould occur, must be paid to the oompany holding this mortgage. Another fact is significant The deed made by Kimball to the State of Geor gia, has never been recorded, unless it has been done within a few days post We have not yet near reached the bot tom of the frands and robberies perpe trated by, the Kimball-Bullook-Blodgett Ring. Txi Public Printing.—The bill re ported by Maj. Hillyer to tbe Senate does not reach the evil that exists, and is worth but little, if anything. If we un- dentaad it oorrectly, it only proposes to redoes the amount of printing to be done, and the profit on the cost of the Bamc from 30 per oent. lo 25 per cent. We have not Been the bill, but are told that thaw an the main features in the reform proposed in the bill. This amounts to almost nothing, and is not worth tbe time taken np in its consideration. If the Legislature means retrenchment; if the members really de. sire to oat off all unnecessary expenses and every possible source of corruption, and lighten the hardens of the peoplo, let the root of the evil be straok at. The mere lopping off of one or two small branchea ia a trifle, nnworthy of the attention of men. Local Si Business* Noticos. SpA. Amtiquitibs.—We invite attention to the notice of the “Journal of Antiquity,’’ to be published in Knoxville by Dr. Cro sier. This country is rioh in undevel oped ontiquitioa, out of which the histo ry of an extinct race of mankind is yet to be written. Thi Adel Loom.—We, yesterday, saw a letter from one of the 'moet promi ment men in this Stale, who is known all over the Union, offering to purchase twenty thousand dollars worth of the stock of the Abel Loom Mannfaoturing Oompany, and pay the oath for the same. What Mama P so Mint Them ?—We observe that the Maoon Tdegrajtk, Alba ny Newt, Savannah IbyntMiam,MID edge villa Union, Newnan Herald, Griffin Star, aag perhaps other papers, are opposing i rad notion of Um iHMPp^iufttioo now *1 lowed by law to the State Printer; and are earnestly condemning the proposi tion to oorroct existing abuses and extrav agance. Why ahould these papers, in sash unison, raise this cry ? How arc they ooncemed in it f Why should their edi ton desire a continuation of the extrava gant compensation now allowed by law, and the chance for a continuation of the combinations, bargainings, and corrupt practices of the past t What is tbe use of some of the papon of Georgia trying to make it appear that thirty par oent. upon cost is a very small profit—especially in a largo business f— mono especially, when the man who gets the beuefit of the thirty per oent. profit hat a chance to mako tho “oost” as jarge at hit oonacienoe will allow f There ia not a paper in tho 8tate of Georgia, new advocating tbe continuance of the present law in relation to the Pub- lie Printing—urging that the pay ia little enough, Ac.—that would not be glad to got ten dollar jobs ataproflt of thirty per cent ; and if the State Printing wore to * be done for a private individual or corpo ration, not one of these papers wonld re fuse so big a job st a dear profit of even five per cent, while all wonld seek for it at tea par seat, profit. rtfi thelasgUatara Catt. Notwithstanding he it a Northern man, who was in the Federal army during the wan and, we believe, is a Republican in politicii, yot ha hat the confidence and snips at of everybody in Morgan oounty. He is not afraid of the Kn-Klnx Klan. He hat induced a number of Northern families to settle ia Morgan eonnty, who, like him, have gone to work, and are hot trying te rob our people—an mere carpet bag adventurers do. Atukms, Ga., Nov. 20, 1871. Editors Atlanta Sun; We were high ly entertained, on tbe night of tbe 17th inst., by six seleot debaters, in a public debate of the Demostbeuoan Sooiety. The young uion certainly did themselves juatioc, and admirably represented tbeir society. All tbo debaters did very well, yet we feel we express but tbo opinion of tbe majority of tho qmlience. in say ing that Mr. Leonard Pbinizy made tbe speech of the night. Miss Epfie Johns.—The performance last evening at DcGives', while it elioti- ted bnt littlo applause from h certain class, was warmly approvsd by tha more sensible, as ono of the most aoeoptable of tho season, because it was destitute of many features revolting to a truly virtu- ous heart. Miss Effie is one of the most chase, winning and unaffected little art istes we ever saw. She ia tha aoul of the oompany. This evening she sustains twq characters—ono In the Comedy Fegiale Miller, the other in tho faroe Irish Assurance and Yankee Modesty. The Election Bill. —Acting Governor Cotlsy has kept the bill to bring on a special aleotton lor Governor in his pock et till now. He evidently intends to veto it; not, be wonld have approved it be fore now. He will doubtless send in his veto to-duv, os we believe it will become a law without his approval, if it is not returned with hirtShjoctions to-day. Meantime, the friends of Bollock and tha plundering “ring,” have been, in a very sly way, bringing every possible in fluence to bear on some Democrats to make there weak in the knees, so as to prevMtthe passage of the bill by the Legislator* over thereto. r«B IXCEETAXV OF STATE.
