senoe of Mr. Reese, who speoially desired

On motion of Mr. Simmons, tbs Ju
diciary Committee was requested to
report on Monday moaning.
The Finance Committee, to whom was
referred a resolution directing a Settle
ment .between John Jonea, Esq., late
Treasurer and the present Treasurer, re
ported a resolution that the last Legisla
ture had fully investigated the books,
acoounts and vonohere of Mr. Jonea, by
joint special committee, that said oom-
mittee reported that Mr. Jonea had pro
duced and exhibited to them his
books, vonchers and accounts, showing
a proper disposition of the funds of the
State that had oome into his hands after
his last amended statement in October,
1866. That said Committee by resolu-
lntion directed Mr. Jones to turn ovei all
his official books, Ac., to the present
Treasurer. That in accordance there
with, Mr. Jonea hod made three applica
tions at the Treasury to be relieved from
his bond and get the proper reoeipt there
for, and Was each time refused. The
Committee direot the aocount closed.
The report was adopted.

Mr. Goodman moved to reconsider so
much of yesterday's proceedings as relate
to the passage of a bill to change the
line between the connties of Douglas and
OarrolL
Mr. Cleghorn who, was at the last term
of the Legislature, chairman of the Com
mittee on New Counties and County
Lines, stated the circumstances under
which the bin to create the connty of
Douglas was favorably reported on by
that Committee, and said that some evi
dence afterwards appeared which might
have changed the nature of the report
Mr. Fain stated the circumstanoeacon
nected with the action of the committee
on the present bill, and stated the rea
sons which prompted the unfavorable
report
Mr. Head contended that the bill
should pass, and that the citizens who
were cat off from Carroll without their
eonsent ought to be pot beck in their old
county.
Mr. Fain moved to reconsider the ac
tion of this House on yesterday in in
definitely postponing the bill to repeal
the usury laws
Mr. Fain supported his motion.
Mr. Pierce called tlio previous ques
tion. The call was sustained.
The main question was voted down and
the motien to reoonsidsr went over, un
der thh rales, until to-morrow.
Mr. Johnson of Clay moved to recon
sider the less of a bill to make penal the
breach of contracts by employer or em
ployee. This motion did not prevail.

Mr. Bimmopf of Gwinnett moved to
suspend the rules to take up s bill to in
corporate the Land Grant lxiard.
Mr. McMillan also favored the motion
to suspend. The motion was lost
To prohibit and make penal the pur
chase and sale of agricultural products
after dark, was read third time.
A motion excepting the counties of
ESlngliam, Dougherty, Camden, Clark,
and Hall, was lost.
Mr. Griffin of Uonstou, opposed the
hill as a measure calculated to work a
hardship upon certain persons, and to
injure the agricultural interest Of the
country.
Joiner opposed the bill as a had meas
ure which Would disorganize labor,
Mr. Hudson said that tha bill waa In
tended to prevent petit larcenies. He
waa in favor, however, of recommitting
the bill in order that it mar be perfeoted.
Richardson and Floyd’ opposed the
bill.
Mr. Pierce made the point of order,
that on a motion to recommit, wonld sot
authorize the discussion of the merits of
a question. This point was ruled as well
taken. Mr. Pierae called the previous
question on a motion to reoommit The
call was sustained and the bill waa reoom
mitted.
To amend the charter of the oity of
Maoon, to prescribe how and when elec
tions for Mayor and Alderman, etc., of
said city, was passed-
A resolution by Mr. MoMillan, provid
ing for printing 1,000 of Dr, Wills’ ser
mon, was adopted.
Bill to repeal an act to amend section
8161 of the Code, passed.
Bill to repeal the 1st and 2d sec
tions, and to amend the 3d section, of an
set to prescribe the mode of granting and
hearing injunctions, etc., approved in
1870, wae rend the third time.
Mr. Graham explained the old law and
the nature of the act sought to amend,
and war oppered to the passage of the
law.
Mr. Hooter was opposed to the act

compensate jurors in Polk oounty.
For the relief of W. H. Bullock and
heirs of B. L. Cole, of Chatham scanty,
passed, and on motion of Mr. Bussell,
was ordered transmitted forthwith to the
Senate.
To authorise the Tax Collector of
Madison, to receive jury certificates in
payment of tax; passed.
To incorporate the Grand Bay Paper
Manufacturing Company; passed.
To establish a Board of Commission

liquor within one mile of Clement Insti
tute was granted. Mr. McMillan moved
to disagree to the report of the committee
which whioh was adverse to the bill. Mr.
MoMillan'a motion prevailed. After con
siderable disouasion, the bill was passed.

To protect the people of Georgia from
the illegal and fhuidulent issue of bonds;
was read the third time and passed.
To amend the charter of Sparta;
passed.
To require all persons who own lands
in Miller oounty to pay tax in laid ooun
ty; waa read the third time.
Mr. Bash moved to disagree to the re
port of the committee, which was adverse
to the bill. The report wzs agreed to
and the bill was lost.
Mr. Hudson introduced a resolution
announcing the death of Hon. Wright
Brady, ana doctoring that this House
will adjourn in respect to his memory
until Monday next, at 10 a. XL, also or
dering the chair of the deoeaaed to be
draped in mourning, and directing the
Clerk to tranamit a copy of the resolu
tion to the bereaved family. This reso
lution was unanimously adopted.

ternal Revenue shows: Aggregated re
ceipts /or the fiscal year $144,000,000.

tobacco $33,600,000—su increase of
$2,260,000. The total yield of tobsooo
was nearly 108,000,000, whereof 10,600,-
000 was exported. The number of Be

A continuance of the present system of
stamps ia reoommended. A uniform tax
of 82 cents a pound is also reoommended.
A special tax upon peddlers of $16, $25
and $60, and increasing with the number
of animals used by the peddler is rooom-

sell raw or leaf tobacco to others than
those who have paid special tax; or who
shall sell leaf tobacco ia quantities Isss
