WHO 13 BOOT!
A fow days sgo the whole country was
startled by the announcement that one
Louis V. Bogy ltd been eleoted United
States Senator from Missouri, over Sen
ator Frank Blair. The question was,
"Who is Bogy I" It seems, however,
to turn up that Bogy, years ago, wssoon
nooted with the Indian agency business.
The New Ink Evening Foil, thinks
money bed something to do with Bogy’s
eleotioo. The Pott eeys: “A reputa
tion large enongh to deserve s seat in the
United States Senate, cannot be bniit in
a night, end they were nnohsritsble
enongh to assert that a valuable consider
ation bad something to do with Mr.
Bogy's remarkable promotion. An in
vestigation by the Legislature is the con
sequence, and if one half of the charges
of oorrupt bargains and tbs direot transfer
of votes ere proved true, Mr. Bogy’s ease
will never reach the Senate Committee
os Privileges end eleotions. That com
mittee already hai its bands full of disa
greeable work, going to show by whet
means the Senate of the United States
hue lost mneh of its ehsrsoter for dignity
and power."

The Washington Chronicle says that
Mr. Dorsey, the Senator-eleot from Ar
kansas, is President of the Arkansas Cen
tral railroad. Patterson, Senstor-eleot
from South Caroline, is a successful rail
road man. Jsnca, the successor of Nye,
is said to be a successful mining ami rail
road operator. The new Senator from
Oregon ton railroad king. It dots not
know how it is with Bogy, bnt it looks
v?ry mneh as if the railroad power was
looming np pretty significantly in the
Senate obamber.

We notioe an article iu our neighbor
of the Comliluiion, of yesterday morning,
under the above heading ia which it is
stated that we had done in joatioe to Gen.
Oordon In our comments upon the
changes in the final vote for Benstor.
J Vo also notioe a similar article in onr

ootemporaries we have simply to say at
present, that nothing could have been
farther from the object of tbs writer of
the artlole in Thu Hnr referred to, than
an intention to do Geo. Gordon or bis
friends the slightest injustice.
We, tho associate editor of Tux Burr,
who wrote that article, assure them that
we did not intend to say anything that
would "imply that Gcu. Gordon owed
his election to the lladical vote.”
The facts upon which our statement
was founded, that when tho vote was
very dose between Mr. Steplious and
Gen. Gordon—(Mr. Stephen* having, ac
cording to a tally-sheet kept near us, 103
votes when Gen. Gordon had at the
time only 101 vote*)—tbst “a number of

sheet, on which wc presume tho name-

tered, and which ended the final result.
Wo have not as yet been able to obtain
a correct official list of tho last ballot,
with tho many changes, backwards and
forwurds, that were made in it, to which
we had reference, and do not feel any
disposition to say more upon the subject
than to assaro oar neighbors, as well as
Gen. Oordon and his friends, that we
felt perfectly justified in saying what wc
did, and that, too, without tho slightest
disposition to do any injastioe to anyone
whatever,especially to Gen. Gordon. Wo

we do. __________
