The April number of this neatly print

our table, and we are pleased to aay, pre
sents a very interesting table of eontents.
A beautiful poem, written in the soil
language of sympathy and love, by our
friend, Hr. Charles W. Hubner, and en
titled “Tbe Minstrel oi the Bohemian
Forest," graoet the first page of the Eo-
leotie. Mr. Hobner writes in smooth ana
pleasing style, and expresses hia thoughts
in rhyme aa gently, bat as refreshingly,

Besides the literary feuture, the Ecluc-
tie contains monthly, three original
piecea of music—making, during the
year, thirty-six piecea, whioh is worth
ten times the prioe of thh subscription oi
one dollar.
Mr. Hubner, a gentleman of fine liter

Yesterday was the biggest Court of the
eeaaon. Junsen had more than twenty
cases already cut and dried, and at the
boor for the performances to begin war
as bury as a ticket agent it a oiroua deal
ing out arrests, ete. Tbe court room was
crowded to an insufferable degree, and
“ Old Vinegar” had to wbaek ’em right
and le.t before he eonld ascend the throne
of mnnieipal justioe.
Complaint was entered first against
Thomas Scaro, who, en Saturday, soared
np enough money to indnlge in a thin
drink, and before night he invested in
snffloiant quantity to lull his weary frame
to rest on the sidewalk. Simple, unpre
meditated, harmless drunk—86 end cost
Jonas Dye eonolnded to give a deeper
tint to his ooloring, and for that purpose
took two or three eoruplea of benzine.
This morning he was sick enough to die
dry so. He was thrown overboard

lor a V.
J. L. Ford waded into another indi
vidual who was disposed to crowd him,
and need, while crossing some profane
and disorderly language. Ii he can af
ford ten dollars, and costs be can go,
otherwise
Sam Lemons was a very sour piece
of South Africa fruit. He drove his
horse all over the walks, streets, people,
niggers and dogs. The Court took the
Lemon within the jews of its squeezers
and when it let him oat, Snm was ten
dollars worse off than when the opera
tion began.
John Colbert was arraigned let not
paying haok hire; but it wee proven tLst
the wrong man wanted to oolleot it, and
John waa discharged.
Dan Ligon was arrested for wantonly
ringing a street car bell, but it was not
proven, and Ligon discharged.
George Staples was charged with sell
ing liquor and beer without lioenae.
On the trial he produoed the necessary
papers from his poexot, whioh, of oourse,
entitled him to e discharge.
Lewis Turner tamed bis time and at
tention to the job oi collecting sixty-five
oents from McBride. In order to get
his nerve to the stieking point, he took
on that amount in cheap liquor, and
went out collecting. Me. says he owed
the sixty-five cents, but Lewis talked
enough to oollect three hundred dollars,
Jonsen at onoe got orders to talk Lewis
ont of five dollars and oosts, whioh was
done in a mighty few words.
Alex. Wingate was seized with a sud
den attack of sickness, and stepped into
saloon to get a few drops of “korn kor-
gil” to relieve his cramps. It did him
■o mnoh good that when the police ionnd
himhe was breasting the waves ol fate
like a stormy petrel. He traveled so rap
idly under this impulse, that ho became
wearied, and retired to gentle repose an
der the shelter of a lamp-post. He was
towed into the Recorder’s harbor, end
the pilotage eost him five dollars.
The police eame upon “Joano” Pern
berton, hilariously drunk, and threaten
ing tu storm the wtirkB of a half dozen
fortresses in her neigh Dorhood. The
guard silenced ber batteries, and she
hauled down her balmoral aa a signal oi
sunender, to retain her side arms, and
her side legs, too, for the matter ot that,
without any Constitutional Amendment
conditions to be sneaked in after tbe cap
itulation. She was fined ten dollars,
whioh she paid with the contemptuoui
hauteur of a 1 ifty sou), and retired with
a stage stride, worthy of a better u tuae
Green Thomas, although a very good,
hard-working negro, got into a twenty-
five dollar fine beeausa he let his wife
have her way about the bouse, which was
proven to bo disorderly. The Court told
Green the best way to do waa to lift hi:
better bait clean out oi her Ooota when
ever she wanted to wear the breeches.
Green retired.
Another voice bad breathed it clear;
And ao it wandered round
From ear to lip, from Up to tar,
Until It reached a gentle heart,
iched a g<
And that It bulled.
A whisper went around and around un
til it came to the ear oi the police, that
the house in whioh Clara Thomas resided
was not of the right sort. It was eon
sidered a nuisance, and Clara and her
lioutenants were caught, and the Jndgi
went right in for them. Clara had one
or two Daniel Websters to plead her oaoc,
and they demurred to the jurisdiction ol
the Beoorder. Not oaring a continental
about whether he tried her or not, be
ordered Clara under a bond of one thou
sand dollars to answer before Judge Hop
kins at the present term of bis Oourt.
Whether Clara has “ swapped tbe devil
for the witoh” or not, will ne seen afte r
Hopkins holds his levee.
Annie Montgomery, Ella Thrasher and
Luoy Hill were prosecuted iqr being in
mates of Clara Thomas’ house, Annie
was discharged, and the other two fined
ton and ooate each. The Court expressed
its nnreeerved detoimination to pat e
stop to these things, and proposes to
akelp” all who oome before him under
this obarge in the future.
Hansel Hughs* got' highly insulted
boot use another negro asked him bon
his grandma waa. The grandma in ques
tion was Hansel’s wife, but considerably
older than himself, and bis neighbors
were wont to joke him in this way. The
Oourt foil sorry for Hansel, and let him
go. Hi* punishment waa enough alreedy.
Henry Wright, who had rather be
right than President of tire United States,
wts a peaceably disposed person—so he
•aid. His nearest neighbor hsd missed
some chickens, and insinuated something
about Henry’s general character, eta
Henry couldn't brook this insult, ana
was prepared for his neighbor on sight.
When arrested, he had two six ahooiera,
one deirings, and a pair of brass knuckles
in hie belt, and a poker flush m hia coat
sleeve. Case oontnraed until search for
more firearms can be had.
Seveial cases were panted oyer till thia
morning, ifhe beat an<) stpnoh c
near killing the Court, and Jonsen
completely up set. He was mad when
tbe Oourt first opened, end didn’t im

Mi i.it Any.—The Cadets were out last
night on the streets in full dress. They
marched up and down Whitehall with
fife and drum, and when in front of
Pelie's Bestanraot, eame to a “parade

A ftfeat Resort tor Pleasure.
The people, who have for the past
summers, token up their abode in Atlanta
as a place of recreation and rest,
been almost unanimous in its praise,
possessing vast advantages over other
Southern oitiee, both in climate and
oommodations. It is useless to speak
tbe healthfulness of its air, tbe purity
and salubnouscess ot whirh only
be tested to be appreciated. Tbe
is dear, cold and sparkling, while vari
ous pleoea in and around the oity, afford
to tbe pleasure seeker ample food for
hungry eonl.
Chief among the attractions whioh vis
itors find, is the H. L Kimball Boose,
now nnder the management oi Col.
M. Nioholls, who snoceeds Mr. Critten
den as landlord. This bouse hss
so often and so minutely described
it would be a task of supererogation
attempt it now; bnt, as like all publio in
stitutions, it hss its faults, and however
inaignifloant they may be, are magnified
by some whose petty jealousies darken
their better judgments. Col. Nioholls,
sinoe his oonneetion with tbe house,
labored under a great many difficulties,
but ablest has succeeded in plaeing
Kimball at the head of the list of South
ern hotels. ,
Chief among the acquisitions, nnder
present management is that ol Mr.
M. M. Belliaatio, a man whose
oapaoity and efficiency as chief
of the oommiasory depaitment
unapproaohable. Ou last Sunday, iu
addition to the usual rich bill of fare, the
guests were agreeably surprised by
lavish spread of various early vegetables
—the lint in the market, among whioh
were green peas, celery, lettuce, corn,
radishes, onoumbera, etc. Bellisario
always ou the qui vine for the first and
beat in market, and he knows exactly how
to serve it The guests, a number
whom were from the Northern aud West
era States, expressed themselves greatly
delighted at thia unlooked-for treat.
These people have been wintering
Florida, and invariably remain over sev
eral days beyond their expectations on
aooount of the hospitality afforded at the
Kimball.
The new gas apparatus has been placed
iu position, and every night the house,
from top to bottom, is most brilliantly
lighted.
Tbe new boiler for the elevator is in
the city and will be pat in position this
week, when that great modern oonve-
nienoe will be at the Itisposal of the
guests from daylight until twelve o’clock
at night. It ran* to within one flight
of stairs of the observatory, that has just
been finished, overlooking tho eutirc
eity. The finishing touoh to the prom
enade over the front portico has been
given, adding to it another pleasant re
sort for evening promenaders.
Colonel Nioholls has purchased and
stocked a snug little farm within two
miles cf the oity, on which he raises all
hie oliiokens, sheep and hogs, as well as
much fresh, pore country butter and
milk as two hundred people would oon
sume. He will also raise tbe greater
portion of his vegetables on this farm
the ooming season.
Various other combinations of im
provement, have been aud will be made
for the oomfort ot his gnesta, all of
whioh will aid in making Atlanta, with
her salubrious climate aud fine mineral
waters one of tbe most desirable spots as
summer resort in the South.
Although Col. Nioholls io compara
tively a new hotel man, yet in the selec
tions of bis assistants, and by his per
soual energy and industry renders him
eqtitt, to the oldest hotel keepers in the
United States
