Harder, sad Crimes Ageless the
Federal Uortrnmtni.
The Fugitive* Rtcogalxad.
From the Kan— City Time*.
In last Tuesday's Times brief mention
was made of. the arrest by Deputy Mar
shal Malloy and De.eoiive Oon. O'Hare,
ci two rasoeeted fugitives from justice,
near the Union Depot. They were ar
rested neon information and adeeorip-
tion of tneir persons given by two color
ed men late from Georgia, who had seen
them on the street L.st night Captain
E. 0. Blaoker, Deputy United States
Marshal, of Georgia, arrived for the
prisoners, upon notification by Malloy,
and recognised the men as the criminals
wanted. He gives the following story of
their crimes:
Himself, a Federal officer, with Depnty
Marshal Finley and ionr others, pro
ceeded from All >nta, armed with war
rants for the arrest of Hsrrison Barker,
J. DeWitt Hansard, Ira Hansard, Golnm-
bua Wright and some doaen others, who
ware obarged with illicit distil slion. On
tits morning of the 25tii of tannery last,
tbe officers, having secured tight prison
ers, stopped at the residence of Mr. P.
Hansard, father ot tbe two Hansards
named above. There they left a guard
in charge of the prisoners, while three 01
the officers, Captain Blacker, Pepqty
Finley and hja son, went oat to search
lot the others- They soon encountered
Berker, the two Hansards and Wright,
who wereacmed with gone and revolvars,
in a broken and timbered section. When
the offioers attempted an arrest, a draper-
ala fight—almost a miniature battle, at
least a skirmish—ensued. Some fitly
■hots were exchanged. Ira Hansard
was shot and killed. Wright was
wounded, and has never been heard
of einoe, while the present prisoners,
J. DeWitt Hansard and Harrison
Barker escaped unhurt. 01 the offioers,
the only one wounded was Captain
Blacker, and he not seriously. The offi
cars then returned to Atlanta with their
sight prisoners, binee tb*n diligent
search baa bten made for Barker and
Hansard, but until described to Malloy
by tbe oolorad men who had sren them
here, they bad eluded capture. For tbe
cleternees of the arrest, and their
shrewdness in picking ont these men
irons tbs emigrants at tbe depot, Depnty
Marshal Ms loy, assisted by O'Hare, de
serve muob credit Only promptness in
seting on the meagre information pre
vented the escape of tbe two men, who
Were - u iesyorjfig to get away on tbe
dregt on’going train. They had joined a
band of emigrant* from Tennessee and
onoe passed westward tnrongh this oily,
bnt in order to throw off pnranit, if by
ebanoe it should be learned they were
with this colony, they had returned here
to make a start for Texas.
Captain Blacker will start with them
in Custody tor Georgia os Sunday night.

A special dispatch to the Savannah
Advert iter, of the date of tbe 10th inst.,
gives information of a serious difficulty
oetween the white and oolored aitiz- ns of
Molntush county. Tbe sheriff attempt
ed to arrest a negro outlaw, and in so do
ing provoked ths indignation of the en
tire oolored population. Tbe negroes
amembled, armed, in the town of Darien,
and attempted to rescue tbe prisoner.
Tbe woite* armed themselves, also, pro
tected the sheriff and prevented a rescue.
A collision between the armed bodief
seemed at one time inevitable, bat was
happily averted and bloo.li bed prorent.

Rev. Henry D. Moore. A. M„ formerly
Freeident of Le Vert College, Talbottou,
Georgia, but now Freenlent of the Ala
bama Conference College, located in
tbia place. He was educated at Charles
ton Citadel Aeademy, where he reoeived
a most thorough education. His man
agement of the Le Vert College gave
him an enviable repntation aa a teacher.
Success bos followed him to this oollege,
as will be seen from tbe large number of
beautiful and intelligent young lady
boarders from all sections of Alabama
and portions of Georgia, Florida and
Mississippi. The average number of
pnpils is between ninety and one hun
dred.
In company with Pi of. Moore, we vis
ited the Orphans’ Home, and toimed the
acquaintance of tbe Superintendent, Rev.
A. R. Holderby. This reverend and
ohristian gentleman deaerves tbe highest
praise ior the care and Attention which
he has bestowed upon this glorious in
stitntion or benevolence. He kindly
showed us over the entire buildings and
grounds. Everything ia well oondnoted
for the oomfort of the little inmates. All
useful trades are taught them. This Ui-
stitnte does great credit to the Synod of
tne Presbyterian Church, wnicb origi

The Tuskegee Male High School ia now
flourishing, being presided over byCapt.
James F. Park. A. M., a graduate of the
University of Georgia. He has been in
charge of this school over fifteen years.
The number of scholars are over eighty.
The academy, which was lately Darned,
is now being rapidly rebuilt.
All are rejoiced over tbe telegraphic
communication which ns established a
week or two sinoe.
Tuskegee appears to be quite a favor
ite city with the young men of Atlanta,
as several have already found better
halves here, and more are trying their
fortnnes. May they have the sneoess
they oovet so muoh. We state frankly
that we never beheld lovelier dames nor
more charming demoiselles.
We railed at the office of the News
and were hsppy to meet with the edi
tors snd proprietors, J. A. Bilbro Esq
and Oapt J. E. Cobb. Success to the
paper and its editors.
A revival was in progress at tho Meth-
ocfst Church. It was inr good fortune
to attend services in the morning and
listen to an exorllent discourse from
Rev. Mr. Mangum, pastor in charge.
About twenty persons joined the eburoh.
Muoh interest was manifested and mnon
good will resnltfrom it. Rev. Mr. Care-
well officiated at tbe Baptist Church,
and Rev. A. it. Holderby at tho Presby
terian Church. Both are poDnlar min
inters and have large oougregatiors.
Work on tbe newMethodnt Cbnrch is
being rapidly pushed forward. Wheu
oompi ited, it will be a splendid ornatne t
to the city. The seats are constructed in
amphitheatre style, conveniently and
astefnlly arranged.

r Late advioes from Great Britain
in regard to tbe question of food sup
plies, show that, while there is a defi
ciency of 16,000,000 bushel in tneqnsn-
tity of Russian grain for shipment, the
consumption in England, os estimated
ior the year, will be 16.000,000 bushels
more tban was originally calculated.
Tbe great bnlk ot this quantity mna. be
drawn from the United Htates. Assoou,
therefore, as navigation thoroagbl.v

may be expected to set in from all parts
of the West towards the Atlantic sea-

wheat io tbe United States on tbe 23d of
Mareb, 1673, amounted to 7,118,689
