MR. Saundejr, who had been detained by the
Rebels as a pilot on board 4he Britannia,
came to town last informs us, that
they failed from Offabaw on Friday the ißrh inst.
with an intention to take in water at Jekyl: That
on r jThurfday t the 24th, at eight o’clock in the
morning, off Dauboy, his Majesty’s (hip Cormo
rant, Capt. M’Evoy, hove in fight and gave chafe
to them, when finding they were not likely to
escape they qarae to an anchor and struck their co
lours : ThaitKe,CarniOrant feat off two boats with
mjen to take pofoflion of the Britannia, but before
they could reach her one of the Rebel cutters,
commanded by Howell, appeared, on which they’
cat the ship’s cable, hoisted her fails and colours a
gain, and firing at tfie man of war, a* well as her
boats, obliged the latter to return : That the Cor
morant again gave chafe,* and continued to fire at
her and the cutter till about five in the evening,
when the (hip again anchored at the south end of
Black Beard Island in 15 feet water: That the cut
ter came aldngfide, and after Howell had ordered
the prize-master to set fire to the ship he took the

The {loop Recovery, Seth Doud, Master, from
Bast Florida for this port, having on board ne
groes, plantation tools, &c. belonging to Moqnt
Oswald Estate, was taken by the abovementioned
tutiera, off the Island of St. Katherine, on Friday
the 1 8th inst. Capt. Doud {who came to town
on Saturday with Mr* Saunders) fays that;Howell
and M’Cluer shewed him many civilities after they*
took him.
The loss of the Rebel army, in the adtion of
the cth of March last with Lord Cornwallis, at
Guildford Court-House, in North Carolina, as
stated in the Pennsylvania Packet of the 3d April,
and published by order of Congress, (lands thus:
Continentals killed, wounded, and miffing* 330
Virginia Militia, ditto, - - 403
North Carolina, ditto, - - 574
Total 1307
Besides these is one entire regiment of the North
Carolina Militia miffing, and no account made of
the loss in the corps of artillery.
