Jolmllown, the brooks and fivers, the hills and
mount ains, (he deep and gloomy maifhes, through
which they had to pass, these mull tell, these only

that detached them on this paltry expedition. The
desolate region they traversed, Nvhile we were pur
fuiug them, lies upwarJs of 30 miles north of Fort
Schuyler.
It would be wrong in me to close this letter

firft appearance, a very faft lailer, and luperior to
them singly, fixed upon the faHowirg flratagem to
take her; ‘Fhe smallest of the revenue vefit Is was
to (land towards the strange fail, and the other to
give chafe, firing at intervals her bow chafes,
chaiged only with powder. Burnet Obfcrving the
large* cutter had an union flag flying flood in to
give protection to the one she chafed, when to his
’ aftoniftrment,_the one c6t(er was
brought to bear on.his bow, and that of tbe other
on his quarter; thus finding all resistance ineffec
tual he ordeted his colours to be struck.
Letters from Gibraltar mention that the Mcnrf
arc all in’ motion, and that they have a strong fleet
in the Mediterranean.

Rodney is to go out fome time in November to
