of protection from the mother coun

We, therefore the representatives

Ruler of the world for the re&itude

compelling the territory of the Weft
Florida, to be a free imd indepen
d -it state,- nrui that jthey have a
right so infiitute for themselves such
form ot government as they may
think conducive to their falety and
happincis—to form treaties—to ef
tabhfli commerce—to provide for
their common defence, and do ail
acls which may of right be done by
a sovereign &. independent nation.
At the lame time declaring all ads
within the said territory of Weft-
Florida, after this date, by ary tri
bunal or authorities, not deriving
their powers from the people agree
ably to the. provision of this conven
tion. to be null and void—and cal
ling upon all foreign nations to res
pect this our declaration, acknowl
edging our independence, and giv
ing us Inch aid as may be confident
with the laws and usages of nations.

Judge Toulmin, of the Mifliflippi
territory, in his charge to the grand
jury of YValhingion county, at tlia
i-Ate Septentbcr term, has made

have threatened to make an attack
on the town of Mobile, in Wdt-
Florida. Ihe charge is at great
length, and the pc*per which we

We are informed that orders
have been iilued by brigadier gene
ral Hampton, v.h is now cn a v:-
fit to this city, for a detachment of
the troops in this harbor to proceed
