FARM WAGES MUCH HIGHER
Washington, June 17.—Department
of Agriculture statisticians, after del
ving into Civil War records, rave con
eluded that farm wages have inerea.s
ed more than 200 per cent in the last
sixty years. Farm labor that could
hired from $10 a month with board,
in grandfather’s time, they found,
now costs $34 a month, and this is a
slump from the $47 peak reached in
1920.

in cultural things and intellectual
progress, but in favorable advertis-j
ing Georgia will receive throughout!
the country and the high type of
families such a notable college will
attract to the state. Some day Wood
row Wilson College will be a famous
institution. We neighbors of the
Georgians hope that the movement
to properly finance the new institu
tion will meet with complete and
early success,” said Mr. Thomas.
The memoial college about which
Mr. Harvey and Mr. Thomas speak,
is to be erected in Valdosta, Ga.,
where a local population of 15,000
people have already raised $500,000
towards the project. Further funds
are being sought throughout Geor¬
gia at this time by a group of promi¬
nent GeGorgians lead by Pleasant A.
Stovall of Sahannah, former Ameri
can Minister to Switzerland, and
boyhood friend of Woodrow Wilson.
Eventually a considerable sum will
be raised throughout the nation to
build and endow the memorial insti
tution. It is said the memorial pro
ject has behind it the full approval
of the men who were closest to
Woodrow W’ilson while he was Pres
ident. The plans upon which the
new college will be operated were
prepared by his educator friends. A
board of trustees chosen nationally
will govern the memorial college, ac
cording to the plans.
