L-TMailbag - Your opinion in letters
Support our team
Editor, The Leader-Tribune:
My, how complacent Peach
County football fans have become.
We are spoiled by our own success. I
guess we think no season is a success
unless we are winning every game. I
have heard more unfounded negative
comments this year than I care to
hear. Now is the time to support our
coaching staff, who put in countless
hours away from family and our
young kids who deserve our
undivided support. Let’s be true
Peach County fans and support our
team, win or lose.

Many psychologists advocate using
pets where “cuddling, affection and

“Pet Therapy" sessions since 1985
for the many residents of two local

Veterinary technician

small group that made visits to the
Fort Valley Nursing home and the
Summerhill Nursing home in
Fterry during the school year 1999-
2000. While there, students
encourage patients to interact with
the animals by holding and petting
them. Students characterize these
sessions as “ending up with a lot of
petting” from both ends of the
human-animal equation.
The idea for the visits

purposes was to commit the elected
officials to a code of ethical conduct
far the benefit of those we represent.
The ballot for the November 7th
general election will include a
proposal to amend the Georgia
Constitution. The General Assembly
passed Senate Resolution 411 during
the 2000 session. The proposed
amendment would direct that any
member of the Georgia General
Assembly convicted of a felony would
be suspended from office
immediately without pay, with a
successor to be elected promptly for
the duration of the suspension.
In an era when the public
confidence in government is often
tested I think there needs to be
political consequences to the
officeholder who is convicted of a
felony. The citizens deserve honest
and upstanding elected officials.
Therefore, I am writing as an
individual citizen to urge the voters
to support this amendment.

felt the activity was another way of
providing their community service
by using an aspect of their chosen
vocation. Dr. Frank Lochner,
Department Chair, states, “The
Department couldn’t be any
prouder of these students , if they
had graduated at the top of their
class or donated a great deal of
money to the Department. What
they’re doing gives obr
communities an opportunity to see
how our profession can be involved
with and lift up the spirits of the
nursing home residents for the
benefit of both the individual and
their families.”
Over 30 students have
taken part in the activity since it
began making nearly 200 visits
over the past 15 years. In the
future, the Department hopes to
expand its schedule to visit each
facility at least once a month but
currently only every other month
visits are possible.

Time flies when you’re having fun
Will someone please tell
me where the month of
October went?
Today is the first of
November and that means
from here on until January
we as well as everyone else
in the world will be
extremely busy. As they say,
I guess, time flies when you
are having fun.
I do not want to accept
that it is November,
however, the calendar will
not let me do otherwise. The
time change did not bother
me, it only does in the
spring. However, personally
I wish the powers that be
would leave it one way or
the other and I really don’t
care which way. Did you
know that some states do
not observe Daylight
Savings Time? It’s true.
So much is going on right

Someone, I believe it was
Jim McClarnon, told me
there was a reason for that
but I haven’t figured it out
yet.
At any rate it is all in
good fur *nd for a good
organization,
The Fall Festival was
last night and we had twice
as many kids come by trick

we ran out of candy and
last year my staff gained a

don’t want any bad

don’t want to be sued. And
we accepted their
reasoning.
Then someone said, let our
daughters have abortions if
they want to, and they won’t
even have to tell their
parents. And we said, that is
a grand idnn
Then some wise school
board member said, since
boys will be boys and they
are going to do it anyway,
let’s give our sons all the
condoms they want, so they
can have all the fun they
desire, and we won’t have
to tell their parents they
got them at school. And we
said, that’s another great
idea.
Then some of our top
elected officials said, it does
not matter what we do in
private as long as we do
our jobs. Agreeing with
them we said, it doesn’t
matter to me what anyone,

from year to year.
Since there is so much
participation it would be
nice to have more activities
going on downtown during
the festival. My regret is I
did not get to participate in
any way shape or form
since I was chained to my
computer trying to get the
last few pages out.
Tuesdays have got to where
they run late each week
and I miss out on any fun
that day.
The Lions Club needs to
get. on the hall and see
what they can do to get
more interest in booths or
something to give those
kids downtown more to do
during the Festival,
Soon we will be smack
dab in the middle of the
holiday season and the
spirit of this time of year. I
including the president
does as long as I have a job
and the economy is good.
And then someone said,
let’s print magazines with
pictures of nude women
and call it wholesome,
down to eatth appreciation
for the beauty of the female
body. And we said, we have
no problem with that,
And someone else took
that appreciation a step
further and published nude
.pictures of children, aad
then took another step
further by making them
available on the internet,
And we said, they are
entitled to free speech,
Then the entertainment
industry said let’s make TV
shows and movies that
promote profanity, violence,
and illicit sex. And let’s
record music that
encourages rape, drugs,
murder, suicide, and
satanic themes. And we
said, it’s jU8t
entertainment, it has no
adverse effect, and nobody
takes it seriously anyway,
so go right ahead.

am way behind in shopping
from where I normally am
this time of year. This
whole year has been that
way. One thing after
another and always being
behind.
Friday is my oldest
daughter, Beth’s birthday. I
won’t say how old because
she is a young lady. In fact,
a year older than I was
when I had her. Beth is a
pal as well as a daughter
and is still working on her
degree at the university.
Beth is also a partner in
business with my husband
and can work circles
around most of the other
guys. She also makes the
best tea in the world, better
than mine.
I am prejudiced that’s
true but she is a very
special lady.
T will be at. the football
game that night so we will
have to delay any
celebration until Saturday.
She has learned to accept
that from me during my
years in journalism.
Happy birthday, Beth,
may God continue to bless
you.
Therefore, we are now
asking ourselves why our
children have no
conscience, why they don’t
know right from wrong,
and why it doesn’t bother
them to kill strangers, their
classmates and themselves.
Probably if we think about
it long and hard enough, we
can figure it out. It has a
great deal to do with “We
reap what we sow.”
Pass this message along if
you think it has merit. If
not then just throw it in
the trash. But, if you
discard this thought
process then don’t sit back
and complain what bad
shape the world is in. Voice
your opinion however you

Dear God, Why didn’t you
save the school children in
Littleton, Colorado?
Sincerely a concerned

Dear concerned student, I
am not allowed in public
schools anymore.
Sincerely, God.
Next Tuesday we will go
to the polls to select either
George W. Bush or A1 Gore
for President. Let me
encourage you to vote for
the candidate who you feel
will take a stand for
returning this great nation
of ours back towards God
and moral living.
