Trojans Knock Off Cairo to Make State Title Game
By Victor Kulkosky

“Knowledge is power,” said Francis
Bacon. “Power is knowledge ” said
Michel Foucault.
Kentel Kendrick fused knowledge
and power to put the game away last
Friday against Cairo. With inches to
go for a first and goal in the fourth
quarter, the Trojans quarterback kept
the ball and fought his way into the
end zone to put the game away.
“I knew I was going to score,’’
Kendrick said. “It was all I was
thinking about.”
Cairo had scored on the previous
drive to close within two points, and
scoring opportunities were rare in the
battle of two intransigent defenses.
“I had to do it. I had to,” Kendrick
declared in a post-game interview.
And so he did.
It was a fitting statement for a QB
who was thrust into the spotlight
after starting QB Greg Williams went
down for the season in the Northside
scrimmage. At the moment, Kendrick
was an untested second stringer.
What a difference a season makes.

seal the win, Kendrick called on his
favorite number, that would be 11,
to get to the 2-yard line. On a third
and 8. Kendrick threw a 32-yarder to
Demarcus Robinson, who leaped to
pull down the ball and create Demarcus
Moment #1 for the evening. A few
plays later came Demarcus Moment
#2, as Kendrick threw a 41-yard pass
to Robinson on the other side of the
field. It surely helps your power/
knowledge to have a Division 1 -qual¬
ity receiver whom you know will
catch anything you put in his general
vicinity.
This was, we must hasten to add, a
team victory.
The Trojans first struck with their
defense, which held Cairo to under
200 yards for the game. In first period
action, linebacker Cassuas Hall hit
Cairo QB Steven Bench as he threw.
Linebacker Ryan Bowman grabbed the
ensuing floater and ran it in 38 yards
for the TD. Bowman was a mon¬
ster all night, seemingly making every
tackle or close to them. A missed PAT
left Peach County up 6-0.
The Trojans added three late in the
second quarter. A drive stalled at the
