Funny to Some;
/ To Some It Isn’t.
But Just think how some people can
commit inch dastardly crimes and go free;
While If othere happen lo sell a pint or two

I guess Sue will give ms trouble, if I
tell It, but It was funny.
Just as Sue and J were going to press
the other evening, Sus'i Ma came dashing
In with a little message to some old friends
hut we put her off and promised lo pu l
it In our licit. So the old lady went a-
way seemingly satisfied. ,
I wish I could tell you more about Sue; ]
hut she Is sweet ami I dout want to make
her mad.
Old Mrs. Jenkeus says from what she
can learn (he U. 8. Soldiers will have to
he mighty careful and use a heap o f
atrctchcngim if they ever take Havana.
She called stnitegont "stretchenglm.” She
aays that the Spaniards have netldng
to cat hut “rations."
She also says, "If you want to winter
your cattle cheap, just put green specta
cles on them and turn them in on un old
brown sage or old pine Held. It will all
look green and they will devour tho whole
business."
1 remarked to a third party friend of
mine the other day that 1 was not the hi
ther of Democracy, hut am one of the
hoys. Hu replied that lie was a better
Democrat than I was. “Well," says 1,
“maybe so, but you arc not of the first
ae^ of children, I know, and 1 never
"" '*Iieard that Thomas .IsfTeraon had a second
or third political wife ” He admitted Ihut
he had not. “Well,” said 1, “you are
then an Illegitimate child, for there is on
ly one set of us boys. You don't belong
to the family, but should come In and lie
sdopted and become an heir to the great
estate."
"Ah,” said he, "you dinged fool, you,
j can’t do anything with you." "No,"
„aid I, “It’S you that need doing some
thing with."
I will now make mention of our trip to
Milledgevillc.
I saw a great many oats cut—and being
cut. Below Macon they are much better
than ours. I saw sotnegood corn.
But didu't we have a time with the cra
zy darkies? I found some of the Inmates
with whom 1 was acquainted getting on
splendidly, while others were not im
proving.
Jjj)U.“t say that Sheriff Wheeler is a
Tearless man and full of business, anil also

jnjl badly wrong he is t|ic right mat) in
the right place.
The most striking incident that occurr
ed on tho trip was poor little, Nellie
lllpps' meeting her ma. She hugged and
kissed her and wept bitterly, and talked
sweet, so soon ns site could recover from
the shock and her sobs, Her mama did
not Seem to realize what Nellie was to
her. 1 saw the stoutest men turn and
walk off when little Nellie met with her
mama. As for me, 1 looked on with tears
pt my eyes, and said, "(lod bless that lit
tle girl. 1 wish her ma could understand.”
Mr. lllpps intrusted her care to Sheriff
Wheeler and myself, we took the liesl
care of her we could, and made It ns
pleasant for her as possible. I was told
by the nulhorltlcathere were 22(15 Inmates
there
Now, for fear I nm worrying tho pa
