Ragsdale, Hon. Hoke Smith has
given this county tv traveling * li
brary which will be carried from
school to school over the county.
It is hoped that the teachers
ipost anxious to have their pupils
derive the benefits of this gener
ous gift will get it first,. Doubt
less it 'would be well for the
pupils to use the principal part
of their time in perusing these
valuable books while they are

the negroe’s freedom was ob
served at, tlje court house in
Dallas, Jan, J, 1808. A lurg#

specific object of the meeting
was not, so much to celebrate
freedom, but to discuss the situ

Death at Crowsvllle.
Mrs. Jus. A. Grogan departed
this life on December 10th, at
her home near Orowsvifle, about,
4 o’clock in the morning. Her
husband was awakened by the
struggles of his wife, in a few
minutes from , the first struggle
she was dead. She was in her
forty-first, year, the imdliet of
eleven children—all living. She
waq a sister of Mr. W. J. linker,
of tltis city. Mrs. Groga.it was a
consistoqt momner of the Bapt ist

friends to mourn her untimely
death.
