Dr. Lorenz Curing the Poor Crippled
Children.
The visit of Dr. Lorenz, the
great bloodless surgeon of Ger
many, to America to cure the lit
tle daughter of Mr. Armour of
that fearfnldisease known as the
hip-joint disease, has brought to
the public notice the great num
ber of people who8uffer with this
painful, disfiguring and disabling
disease. The surgeons of New
York Oity wanted to select a few
cases for Dr. Lorenz to operate on
at a public clinic, and 8,000 crip
ples were brought before them.
Dr. Lorenz has shown that the
disease can be cured, and how it
can be. done. The patient must
be cared for in a hospital for some
time afer the operation in order
to secure careful treatment. Sur
geons are studying his methods.
We must get ready for this work
in Georgia, for you can hardly go
anywhere without finding these
cripples, usually helplessly sitting
or hobbling through life. Some
philanthropist ought to build hos
pitals for these, and say with
Jesus, “Rise up and walk.”
The Orphans’ Home at Decatur,
Ga., has been doing a little for
those who are not only crippled,
but absolutely destitute too.
Some dozen cripples have been
blessed there. About two hun
dred orphans find it a home each
year, and the management want
to be able to help every suffering
child.

Reflections of a Batchelor.
Nobody is half so sorry for a
widow as she is for those who
urn’t widows.
Women get headace over miss
ing love letters the way a man
does over missing his dinner.
Tl>6 man who rides on a rail
road pass acts bigger when be is
doing it than the president who
writes it.
It seems that when a captain
of a bal tleship runs her on a rook
he is entitle to feel as bad as a
woman who has a drop of soup
spilled on her new gown, but he
dosn’t take it any harder.
Women will become financiers
when they learn that a ninetv-
nme-conts bargain, pins ten
cents carfare, for somethings
they don’t want costs them more
than a dollar brrgaiiv without
the carfare, for something they
do want.

BLOOD.
We live by our blood, and on it. We
thrive or starve, as our blood is rich or
pot r.
1 here is nothing else to live on or by.
When strength is full and spirits high,
we are being refreshed, bone, muscle and
braiu, in body and mind, with continual
flow of rich blood.
This is health.
When weak, in low spirits, no cheer,
no spring, when rust is not rest and sleep
is not sleep, wu are starved; onr blood—r«
poor; there is little nutriment m it.
Buck of the blood, is food, to keep the
'flood rich. When it fails, take Scott’s
..mulaion of cod-liver oil. It sets the
wlroli body going again—man woman and
child.
As it. isn’t, generally known
that a good many people tire si
lent because of their lack of
knowledge, it might be just as
well for you to remain silent.

If there be a pessimist in the
land, a survey of the business
conditions of the South should
convert, the most confirmed into
an optimist. ^Everywhere there
is activity and prosperity, and
the world at, last, recognizes that
the South is destined to be the
center of industrial activity in
this country. What, it has done
and what it is now doing aro but
hints of the future. Here and
there it has scratched the ground
and dug a few tons of iron and
coal out of the limitless beds
from which millions and hundreds
of millions of tons are to coine
to enrich'its people. Here and
there it has built a cotton mill,
until it now consumes at home
nearly 2,000,000 bales a year out
of its total production of 10,000,
000 to 11,000,000 bales.—Manu
facturers’ Record.
