The result* of our recent experi
ments do not materially change the
former recommendations of this of
fice for the treatment of the San Jose
scale, but they broaden the field of
effective remedies, giving the orchaAl-
1st the option of choosing one of sev
eral. The petroleum oils (kerbsune
and crude petroleum), which have fur
nished the almost exclusive remedy
for the scale in this State, <«me
through the experiment* with more
point* In their favor than any other
substance tested, although the lime,
salt and sulphur wash gave almost
equally as good results. In dealing
with insecticides it is not usually Hale
