Enterprising Temple.
Editor New Era :
A Jew hours ago tho corner
stone of Temple High school was
Inin with Musonic honors. Dr.
Hamrick, of Carrollton, actiug
grand master.
The people of Temple are to
be.congratulated; they saw the
need of a new Methodist church
a few years ago and erected a
beautiful brick building. Last,
year Miev saw the need of a new
Baptise church and they builded
another brick, not inferior to the
Methodist church. They were
not financially able to build an
eight, t housand dollar brick school
building, but when they looked
about, them and saw the need of
a better building than the one
they already bad, and a corps of
as good teachers ns could be found
in Georgia, they issued bonds
and will soon have a school build
ing that, would be an honor to
any town four times the size of
Temple.
Ira W. Williams, of nationnl
reputation, und his efficient
teachers will begin the training
of-minds and hands of the boy's
and girls of Temple and the sur
rounding community. Wagons
will be sent out und the children
will be hauled in for three miles
in every direction. We repeat!
Temple is to be congratulated
for knowing where to put dollars
and the promise of dollars, where
they will have an interest that
cannot, be calculated in dollars
and cents.
We are proud of our principal,
Prof. Williams. For three years
we were school mates. For three
years we were members of the
same literary society ;und thrice
we have been elected or selected,
speakers from our class. '
Now in conclusion, we will .re
quest .the board of that school
that will be taught in that house,
that the good peopled of Dallas
are going to build just as soon as
they realize that they must ed
ucate their children or they, the
children, will be back numbers
in society. When they learn to
put a higher estimation on culti
vated brains than they uo ou
real estate or merchandise they
will build the school. We earn
estly request that we be invited
to take part in laying the cor
ner stone, and if we are not too
near dead by old age we will be
present or send a grandson to
represent us.
Yours for everything that is for
the mental and moral develop
ment of the young.
