We learn with pleasure that
the Awtry Sunday school did not
hibernate, but is running with a
good attendance.

As 1 have not seen anything
from Route 1 in some time, I
thought 1 would send a few dots.
We have had some fine weath
er for the past two weeks and
the farmers have been very busy.
Clinton Parris has been very
ill with pneumonia but is im
proving.
Miss Lucy Parris, of Polk coun
ty, has been visiting relatives
in this community.
Miss McElreath is having a
flourishing school at Vernon.
Miss Tavlor, of Powder Springs,
has accepted the position as as
sistant. We welcome her in our
midst.

uncle, George Compton Saturday
and Sunday.

ited relatives in this community

which was well attended and
highly enjoyed by all.

FARMERS’ UNION
Convention Well Attended—Hon.
Thos. E. Watson Present.
Over 500 delegates were pres
ent at the first session of the con
vention of the Farmers’ Educa
tional and Co-operative Union
which convened in the hall of
representatives at the state capi-
tol in Atlanta last week.
Men from all over the United
States were in attendance at the
convention.
Before entering into the busi
ness to come before the body, a
devotional service was held. Af
ter a prayer and song, President
C. S. Barrett called the meeting
to order and made an eloquent
address, telling of the objects to
be accomplished and of the good
results which have come from
the Farmers’ Union. The cou
vention of the farmers is meant
for business, and no time will be
spent in electing officers.
On Tuesday evening, at Dr.
Broughton’s tabernacle, Hon.
Thomas E. Watson made a great
address tothe Farmers’ Union
A large crowd heard Mr. Watson
and was charmed by his oratori
cal power and eloquence.
The Union numbers on its list
of members something over 1,-
000,000 names and the remark
able part of it is that it is only
five years old.
It has had a greater growth
than any other like organization
in history.
The Union was organized by
Newt Gresham, in Texas, and
since that time it has marvelous
ly grown to such proportions that
chapters have been established
all over the United States.
