Medical Discovery Is piade upof the most
at. times treated cruelly, but it
seems that no one imagined that
the state of affairs was anything
like ns bad ns it has been found
to be since the present legisla
ture began its investigations.
It was known that fortunes
had been made by men who leas
ed the convicts from tho state,
but the graft and corruption at
tended upon this traffic in the
c mviots has been shown by the
investigations of the committee
of t‘ e legislature to have exceed
ed greatly the belief of those
who had tho worst opinions of
the conditions existing. It, of
course, has been to the interest
of those who were getting money
out of the convicts to keep down
inquiry concerning the working
of the system, and, in spite of a
growing conviction that the con
victs were not treated as humane
ly as they should be, the “Con
vict Kings” did succeed until re
cently in preventing anything
like a thorough investigation be
ing made.
Two j ears ago a man who has
been closely identified with the
present convict lease system was
a candidate for governor, and
under tho new power in Georgia
politics this same man waB given
“one of the highest honors in the
gift of the convention” held in
Atlanta—being appointed one of
the members of the executive
committee from the state at
large.
If the Hoke Smith administra
tion receives credit for nothing
! else tho revelations of rottenness
of the convict system, which
have been caused, will it remem
bered. But it now appears that
not only will the bad things in
connection with the system be
shown, but that laws will be en
acted making it impossible for
such a state of affairs to con
tinue.

IF YOU KNEW that your money in bank was 100
per cent safer than in your own possession or in
your home, would you not rush to place it in bank?
We think you would.
Then listen to reason: You cannot afford to
build a fire-proof vault or a burglar proof safe to
keep your money in. If you can it would be as safe as in
bank, except that we carry Burglar insurance and insure
your money in the “Depositor’s Guarantee
Fund.” ^
We also pay you a good portion of money in interest
which we are sure you could not .get if you stored it away
at home. We have paid out over $1,000.00 in interest since
the first day of January of this year! Our Savings Depart
ment is growing like wild-fire because our customers who
have benefitted by it are talking it to their neighbors and
want them to share in the general prosperity.
Your money is at your disposal at all times in our bank
and we pay 5 1=2 per cent interest as long as it stays with us.
Can you find a better bank account than we offer? If not,
we would be pleased to have yop open an account with us
the very next opportunity you get.
