In Memory.
Of our grandpa, A. J. Mar
tin, who departed this life Aug
13, 1913, age G 7 years. He was
laid to rest at Friendship after
funeral services conducted by
Revs. F. T. Williams and J. M.
Anderson. Grandpa had been
in bad health for several years
but bore his suffering with pa
tience. Oh how hard it was to
stand around his bed and see
him suffer. He professed a hope
in Christ and joined the Baptist
church at Beaver Ruin. I can
certainly say he lived a true
Christian life. He had a smile
for all he met. The first time I
remember seeing grandpa he
was sick in bed.lt almost broke
my heart to see him suffer. He
is gone but not forgotten. He is
not dead, only sleeping in the
arms of his dear Savior. Hehas
p aid the debt we will all have
to pay sooner or later. A pre
cious one from us is gone, a
voice we loved is stilled, place
is vacant in our home that nev
er can be filled. Dear grandpa
thou hast left us and thy loss
we deeply feel, but tis God that
hast bereft us, He can all our
sorrow’s heal. If we live as gran
pa did we- can meet him in hea
ven where all wall be joy and
peace forever. The golden gat
es were open wide, and a gen
tle voice said come, an angel
from the other side welcomed
our loved one home. Heaven
now r retains our treasure, earth
the lonely casket keep, and the
sunbeams long to linger where
our loved one sleeps. Dearest
one w'e have laid thee in the
peaceful grave, but thy memo
ry shall destroy in all his bloom
walk death of his saints. Dear
parents will say grieve not for
as you have the assurance that
you have an heir with Christ in
heaven. Then may we be pre
pared to meet in that home and
where there will be no sickness
nor death to separate us from
our loved ones. Then grandpa
we are glad we can sing, A
sleep in Jesus, blessed sleep,
from which none ever wake to
weep. We loved him, yes we
loved him but the angels loved
him best and God saw fit to call
him to yonder heavenly rest.Oh
how’ sad it is, never again will
we see that sweet face again on
this earth but still brighter and
sweeter up yonder may we all
live a life so we can meet grand
pa in the sweet bye and bye.
There was a band in heaven
that was not quite complete &
God called our dear grandpa
to fill the vacant seat. Words
can not tell the sadness that fill
ed our hearts when from dear
grand vi v. e had to part. Lonely
the hour since dear darling has
gone but oh a brighter than
ours i- now his own. His suffer
ing is ever and he is enjoying
the sweetness of heaven. Peace
fill in the grave so low’ thou art
waiting for the dear ones below
We will join the heavenly land
no more to take the parting
hand. Written by his grand
daughter,
Nora Samples.
