their 52nd Wedding Anniversary.

to a very enjoyable time was had
by all and the couple were wished
many more Happy Years together.
BETA CLUB HOLDS MEETING
The Beta Club held its second
regular meeting Wednesday Octob
er 19, 1955. The meeting was called
to order by president, Annette
Vaughan. The minutes of the prev
ious meeting was read by Joyce
Ingram. Jane Otwell was in charge
of the program. The theme was
character, achievement, and leader
ship. Joyce Ingram read the scrip
ture and led the group in Lord’s
Prayer.
The convention was established
as the aim of the club and many
ideas were discussed for making
money.
Betas decided to sell ribbons at
the homecoming football game and
at the home games durinng basket
ball season. Selling tickets on cakes
is also one of the club’s projects
again this year. The club plans to
have a supper in November, fur
ther details will be announcted lat
er.
Another subject of discussion
was sending additional invitations
to the juniors and seniors who
have become eligible for member
ship since school began.

Local FFA In Macon
Five members of the Forsyth
County FFA spent Friday and Sat
urday, October 21-22, at the State
Fair in Macon. Three of these mem
bers represented the local FFA in
the annual Seed, Tree, and Shrub
Identification Contest. They were
Alton Christopher, Hugh Howard,
and Berry McWhorter. These boys
were the top scorers in the local
Chapter test given by the Advisers,
Mr. Bannister and Mr. Harris.
Mac Holbrook, local sentinel, and
Jerry McWhorter, treasurer, made
the trip as representatives of the
Forsyth County FFA Officers. All
five members, along with Mr. Har
ris, Adviser, attended the FFA Ral
ly at the City Auditorium starting
at 8:45 on Saturday morning. The
most impressive event of the morn
ing was the presentation of the
Star Georgia Planter Awards made
to eight outstanding FFA boys of
Georgia. The Hon. Henderson Lan
ham, Member U. S. Congress, Sev
enth Georgia Congressional Dis
trict made the main address. In
his speech, he outlined the growth,
development, and benefits of FFA
in the Nation 'and in Georgia.

HALLOWE'EN CARNIVAL
Don’t fprget your Hallowe’en
Carnival this Friday night, Octob
er 28th in the gymnasium. Every
thing starts at seven o’clock, so
plan to be there to start the even
ing right with hot dogs, cake, cof
fee and Coca-Cola in the cafeteria.
Both the gymnasium and the gram
mar school building will be used
for the event and pony rides will
be held on the grounds. We hope
you will enter your favorite doll
in the doll contest and be sure to
see the dolls on display.
All costumes will be judged and
a prize will be given for the win
ning costume. You will see the
King and Queen, Prince and Prin
| cess, walk for a cake, bob for ap
, pies, win a turkey, an iron or a
pretty lamp, throw darts, try the
basketball throw and many other
games of fun.

CONFERENCES TO BE HELD
The final meeting in a series of
fall Program Planning Conferences
will be conducted by the State
YMCA at ainesville High School,
Saturday, October 29, from 1:00 to
5:00 p. m., Kemp Mabry, district
YMCA executive secretary announ
ced this week.
Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y clubs from
Hall County, Buford and Forsyth
County are invited, Mabry said.
Program features will include
training sessions for club officers
and advisors, interpretation of the
State YMCA Ten Point Rating Sys
tem, discussion of techniques of
campaign and project performance,
special reports for previous State
L Conferences, and plans for this
"Y" year.

SURPRISE BIRTHDAY SUPPER
Friday October 21st, was the
birthday of Mrs. George Phillips
and her children honored her with
a Surprise Birthday Supper at her
home.
Each of the children and their
families came bringing many good
dishes of food and lovely gifts for
their mother. Those attending were

NOTICE OF ELECTION
TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF
FORSYTH COUNTY, GEORGIA:
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that on the 3rd day of December,
1955, an election will be held in all
the precincts of Forsyth County,
at which time there will be sub
mitted to the qualified voters of
said County for their determinat
ion the question of whether bonds
shall be issued by said County in
the aggregate principal amount of
$150,000 for the purpose of provid
ing funds to be applied towards
the acquisition, construction and
equipping of a hospital and the
usual and necessary appurtenances
useful in connection therewith, ac
quiring the necessary property
therefor and paying expenses inci
dent thereto, including placing such
hospital in operation. Said bonds
are to be dated February 1, 1956,
in the denomination of SI,OOO each,
numbered from 1 upward to 150,
inclusive, in order of maturity,
bonds numbered 1 to 89, inclusive,
maturing in the years 1957 to 1969,
inclusive, bearing interest at the
ratee of three (3) per centum per
annum, and bonds numbered 90 to
150, inclusive, maturing in the
years 1970 to 1976, inclusive, bear
ing interest at the rate of three
and one-quarter (3 1-4) per centum
per annum, payable semi-annually
on the Ist days of February and
August in each year, and the prin
cipal of said bonds to mature on
the Ist day of February, lowest
numbers first, as follows:
$6,000 in each of the years 1957
to 1961, inclusive,
$7,000 in each of the years 1962
to 1966, inclusive,
SB,OOO in each of the years 1967
to 1971, inclusive,
$9,000 in each of the years 1972
to 1976, inclusive.
The principal of and interest on
said bonds shall be payable in law
ful money of the United States of
America at a bank or banks to be
designated at a later date.
The voting polls will be open in
all the voting precincts of the
County at 7:00 A. M. and close at
6:00 P. M. on the 3rd day of De
cember, 1955, and those qualified
to vote at said election shall be de
termined in all respects in accord
ance with the laws governing the
election for officers of Forsyth
County, Georgia.
The qualified voters at the time
of the election desiring to vote in
favor of the issuance of $150,000
Hospital Bonds will do so by cast
ing their ballots having printed or
written thereon the following
words: FOR ISSUE OF $150,000
HOSPITAL BONDS”, and those
desiring to vote against the issu
ance of $150,000 Hospital Bonds

Naval Reserve Opens
New Programs

Georgia, announced that the Navy
has recently changed its policy
about taking men over 18 1-2 vears
of age in the U. S. Naval Reserve.
Men between the ages of 18 1-2
and 31 may now enlist in the Nav
al Reserve for two vears immed
iate active duty provided orders for
induction have not been received.
The Navy also announces that
volunteers are now being accented
from many ratings uo to and in
cluding Chief. Former Navy men
may volunteer for 24, 30 or 48
months of active duty and be as
sured of the Fleet of their choice,
if in pay grade E-3 or above. Inter
ested personnel are urged to call

the local Navy Recruiting Office
