G’ville Center
Sets Jubilee
The city of Gainesville, is
Staging a gigantic celebra
tion to commemorate the
opening of the new Georgia
Mountains Center. The
: Georgia Mountains Jubilee
will be held April 16-19, in and
around the Center, which is
located in downtown
Gainesville.
•;The center was con
structed to serve the North
Georgia Mountain region, so
the Jubilee will encompass
the interests and entertain
ment of the entire area.
A juried arts and crafts
show will highlight the four
day Jubilee. Over 250 North
• Georgia Mountain artisits
• and crafts people will be
I demonstrating, displaying
‘and selling their works in
downtown Gainesville on
.Friday and Saturday of the

-construct booths on the
downtown square and close
•the streets off to traffic. The
Ishow will be juried by
;Eudorah Moore, crafts coor
dinator for the National En
downment for the Arts, and
-Gary Barker, executive
director of the Kentucky
Guild of Artists and Craft
smen, and cash prizes will be
awarded. Winning entries
will be exhibited inside the
»convention center. This part
of the Jubilee is expected to
draw crowds from all over
; the southeast.

craft show, there will also be
a large farmer’s market sell

On Work
The U.S. Bureau of the
Census will conduct its
regular survey on employ
ment and unemployment in
this area during the week of
March 17-21, 1980, according
to Forrest P. Cawley, Jr.,
Director of the Bureau’s
Regional Office in Atlanta.
* In addition to the usual
questions on current employ
ment, the March survey will
•have questions on the work
and income of
members last
year and whether they have
moved since March 1975.
Households in this area
.are part of the sample of
84,000, across the country
Scientifically selected to
represent a cross section of
;aIIU.S. households.
The monthly survey is con
'ducted for the U.S. Depart
jnent of Labor and provides
la Continuous record of activi
ty in the labor force. The
•January survey indidcated
•that of the 104.2 men and
in the civilian labor
Iforce, 97.8 million were
letnployed. The nation’s
Unemployment rate was 6.2
jer cent, compared to 5.9 per
Cent in December.

Georgia area and a standard
flower show sponsored by
local garden clubs.
The festival will begin with
a religious service on
Wednesday, April 16, featur
ing a 500-voice choir and
soloists from area churches.
According to James Mathis,
Coordinator of the event, “It
is altogether fitting and pro
per that the Georgia Moun
tains Jubilee begin with a
religious service. The City
Commission and the Moun
tain Center Dedication Com
mittee especially want this
celebration to be a peoples’
event.” The program of
praise and worship will also
include public readings and
meditations and several con
gregational hymns.
“America Night” will be
held on the second night of
the Jubilee and will feature
area high school bands and
choruses performing
patriotic music. This Thurs
day night program will be
staged by Ed Cabell, a well
known director in the North
Georgia area. Following the
program there will be a huge
fireworks display outside the
center.
The festival’s night time
activity will culminate with
a Friday night street dance
on the square in Gainesville.
Here area residents will be
invited to join in with square
dancers and doggers and
dance to country western
bands.
Formal dedication for the
Center will be on Saturday.
According to Mathis, “The
dedication of the Center pro
vides us with an opportunity
for the people of this region
to rededicate themselves to
those high ideas that make
communities fine places in
which to live and earn a liv
ing.”
The Georgia Mountain
Center was completed in
January. It houses an 18,000
square foot arena for con
ventions and exhibitions, a
theatre, complete food ser
vice facilities, and several
meeting rooms. Director for
the center is Jim Evans.

Attends Meet
The Future Business
Leaders of America (FBLA)
Region Conferences were
held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at
Cedar Shoals High School.
The following members of
the Forsyth County Chapter
of theFBLA competed in the

The State Leadership Con
ference will be held April 11
through 13, at the Atlanta
Marriot Hotel.
FBLA is a national
organization for all high
school students participating
in business and office pro
grams. Its purpose is to pro
vide additional opportunities
for secondary students in
business and office educa
tion. Also it helps to develop
vocational and career sup
portive competencies and to
provide civic and personal
responsibility.
