3rd Junior Miss
Pageant Planned
The third annual Lanier
Junior Miss Pageant, spon
sored by the Forsyth County
Band Boosters Club, will be
held Friday and Saturday,
November 7-8 in the Forsyth
County High School gym.
PROTECT KIDS
“In the country” is a good
place to rear children. It can
also be a place for them to
get hurt. Extension Service
safety engineers say the fol
lowing are good safety rules
down on the farm: Keep
children away from farm
equipment. Supervise them
in new chores until you are
satisfied they can do them
safely. Make grain bins, si
los and livestock facilities
strictly off limits.
Tyson Nominated
For State Award
Tyson Foods of Cumming
was recently nominated to
be the first poultry plant to
receive pollution a control
award from the Georgia Wa
ter and Polution Control As
sociation.
Tyson's was one of only
five plants in the state to be
named. This is the first time
in the 10-year history of the
award a poultry plant was
POTATO FATTENING?
Many people believe the
Irish potato is fattening.
That is a mistaken notion,
according to Cooperative
Extension Service special
ists. They say a medium-size
potato is surprisingly low in
calories. In fact, it has only
about 90 calories. That’s
about the same as an apple
or a banana.
Winners
From The Front
In the Best All around category,
"Judy and Renees” won first place,
"The Place” was awarded second
place and Doris Cowart’s display was
awarded third place.
Harvest Time was the theme for the
festival and several groups displayed
pumpkins and scare crows along with
many fall colors.
Several local organizations provided
entertainment with dances and songs,
as well as other forms of entertainment
throughout the day.

chosen.
Association spokesman
Wayne Waldrip of Car
tersville said, "Although an
other nominee was finally
selected for the award, Ty
son has to be commended for
their effort in maintaining
water quality of North
Georgia.”
The presentation was
made at the association’s
annual conference at Jekyll
Island, Aug. 24-27.
More than 600 industrial
facilities were surveyed to
find the five nominees.
"That means," Waldrip ex
plained, "that Tyson and the
others who were considered
for the award were in the top
one per cent of wastewater
treatment plants in the
state.”
