Counselors attended annual fall
conference at Jekyll Island
Forsyth County School System
counselors recently attended the an
nual Georgia School Counselors Asso
ciation Fall Conference held at Jekyll
Island.

Air Force pilot speaks
to Midway Astronaut Club
The Midway Young Astronaut Club had Captain Hank Davis as their
first speaker of the year. Captain Davis pilots an F-15 fighter with the
Georgia Air National Guard.
He spoke to the Young Astronauts about liis interest in flight, ms
training and how he became a U.S. Air Force Pilot.
Captain Davis showed the students a video about the F-15, which
highlighted the technical and performance reasons why the F-15 is the
most advanced fighter jet in the world.
The students learned how the captain’s flight suit and helmet helped
him withstand the “G” forces of flight. The students had many ques
tions about flight and especially about the military uses of the F-15.
Otwell begins self esteem program

A new program to build self esteem
in students has begun at Otwell Mid
dle School. Students from each grade
team have been chosen as the first of
many such groups to participate in
various activities under the direction
of Guidance Counselor Pat Kohn.
Through enjoyable activities, stu
dents learn cooperative group inter
action. They are are able to experi
ence success as contributing
members of a peer group. All activi
ties are designed to promote in
creased feeling of self-worth.
Students and counselor are having a
good time with this group experience.
There are currently 70 students in
volved in small groups which will ex
tend for six weeks. Many of these stu
dents have requested that the groups
continue after the six weeks is over.
FCHS Y-Club news
The Andy Carnes Co-ed Y Club of
Forsyth Central High School has been
buring during November.
The youth service organization col
lected money for the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation, sponsored a leadership
workshop and donated their time to
answering pledge calls for Christian
radio station 91.5.
They also took part in the statewide
Y-Club week. - __

Rules of the contest
1. All displays must be visible both day
and night. Appropriate lighting of
display will be a consideration for
winning.
2. Judges will use the following point
scale:
Artistic Effort-50 points
Christmas spirit-20 points
Creativity-15 points
Compatibility with
surroundings-15 points
3. Judging will be done by Local AARP
Members.
4. Entry coupon or facsimile must be
completed and returned
no later than Friday, December 8,1989.
5. No purchase necessary to enter or
