Angelic messengers trumpet message of community dinner

Angels trumpet to spread the news: Come to the Community
CWristmas Dinner and “share the spirit of Christmas."
With a beautifully symbolic new logo in place, dinner organizers
hope residents will have a better understanding of the purpose of the
event.
Local artist Tim Williams is the logo designer. Williams has been an
avid supporter of The Place since he and his family moved to Forsyth
County two years ago. It was through his volunteer efforts with The
Place that he met director Sandy Beaver.
According to Beaver, Williams is quite the angel himself.
“I just thought, ‘Here is this very talented person so freely willing to
give of his talents,' so I approached Tim with the idea for a logo and he
just ran with it," Beaver said. She added that Williams had incorporat
ed his talent with his volunteer ambitions on other occasions.
“He helped with our children’s program. He drew caricatures of the
children. He'll be doing that again this year. His whole family is just
really neat people. Their hearts are in what they do,” Beaver said.
Williams grew up in the South and graduated from the Art Institute of
Atlanta. He is well known as a sports illustrator.
*Uke a lot of people, I really enjoy drawing. I tell people it’s like get
ting paid to eat ice cream,” said Williams. “I am probably most noted
as The painter of Kareem-Abdul Jabbar’s farewell portrait.”

Then the angel told Mary, “Don’t be
afraid! God is pleased with you, 31 and
you will have a son. His name will be
Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be
called the Son of God Most High. The
Lord God will make him king, as his
ancestor David was. 33 He will rule the
people of Israel forever, and his kingdom
will never end."
34 Mary asked the angel, “How can this
happen? I am not married!”
35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit
will come down to you, and God’s power
will come over you. So your child will be
called the holy Son of God.
36 Your relative Elizabeth is also going

38 Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant!
Let it happen as you have said.” And the
angel left her.
Mary Visits Elizabeth
39A short time later Mary hurried to a

went into Zechariah's home, where she
greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth
heard Mary’s greeting, her baby moved

“I looked up in the bleachers and saw my wife with her hands on her

The mistake wasn’t too harmful to Williams’ career. He has since

His name is John.”
61 The people argued, “No one in your

they motioned to Zechariah to find out
what he wanted to name his son.
63 Zechariah asked for a writing tablet.
Then he wrote, “His name is John.”

Luke 2:1-21
The Birth of Jesus
About that time Emperor Augustus gave
orders for the names of all the people to
be listed in record books. 2 These first
records were made when Quirinius was
governor of Syria.
3 Everyone had to go, to their own
hometown to be listed. 4 So Joseph had to
leave Nazareth in Galilee and go to
Bethlehem in Judea. Long ago Bethlehem
had been King David’s hometown, and
Joseph went there because he was from
David’s family.
5 Mary was engaged to Joseph and trav
eled with him to Bethlehem. She was soon
going to have a baby, 6 and while they
were there, she gave birth to her first-born
son. She dressed him in baby clothes and
laid him on a bed just as the angel had
told Mary when of hay, because there was
no room for them in the inn.
The Shepherds
8 That night in the fields near Bethlehem
some shepherds were guarding their
sheep. 9 All at once an angel came down
to than from the Lord, and the brightness
w the Lord’s glory flashed around than.
“I am an old-fashioned illustrator," Williams said. Drawing the logo
was quite a change from his usual line of work. He said volunteer
work is an important part of his life. He, his wife, Donna, and daughter
Whitney all participate in volunteer activities.
“So many people are confused about what we are trying to do. This
logo is trumpeting the news to come and share the Christmas spirit,"
said Diana Buntin, one the founders of the annual event. She said she
hoped Williams’ design would help to remedy puzzlement about the
dinner's purpose.
“Life today is so fast paced, it helps to have a visual symbol that peo
ple can recognize," Buntin said. She explained the dinner is not pro
vided to fill a financial need for those who can’t afford a Christmas
dinner, but is really to fill emotional needs for those in the community
who might be alone at Christmas.
“Christmas is not meant to be spent alone. It is a time for fellowship
and sharing," said Buntin.
She said the trumpeting angels were a perfect representation of the
high-energy environment at the Sawnee Center on Christmas Day.
“Sharing Christmas spirit is what we do."
The Community Christmas Dinner will be held Christmas Day, from
11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Donations are needed to cover meal expenses.

The shepherds were frightened. 10 But the
angel said, “Don’t be afraid! I have good
news for you, which will make everyone
happy. 11 This very day in King David’s
hometown a Savior was bom for you. He
is Christ the Lord. 12 You will know who
he is, because you will find him dressed in
baby clothes and lying on a bed of hay.”
13 Suddenly many other angels came
down from heaven and joined in praising
God. They said: 14 “Praise God in heav
en! Peace on earth to everyone who pleas
es God."
15 After the angels had left and gone
back to heaven, the shepherds said to each
other, “Let's go to Bethlehem and see
what the Lord has told us about.” 16 They
hurried off and found Mary and Joseph,
and they saw the baby lying on a bed of
hay.
17 When the shepherds saw Jesus, they
told his parents what the angel had said
about him. 18 Everyone listened and was
surprised. 19 But Mary kept thinking
about all this and wondering what it
meant.
20 As the shepherds returned to their
sheep, they were praising God and saying
wonderful things about him.
Everything they had seen and heard was
just as the angel had said.
21 Eight days lata Jesus’ parents did for
him what the Law of Moses commands.
And they named hiQ Jesus.
