Bette Midler delights on the town, Kid Rock on the way
Ira ,1
Miller
On the town
Bette Midler brought her
aptly named “Kiss My
Brass” tour to Philips
Arena in Atlanta last Sunday
and it was everything I
expected.
Equal parts vaudeville and
musical icon, Midler brings a
cross section of talent that is
just not found anywhere else.
She is as comfortable belt
ing out songs like “Boogie
Woogie Bugle Boy” as she is
telling dirty jokes.
The first half of the show
was pure Bette with about 18
songs, great dance numbers,
and hilarious comedy bits.
She also played “Hey
There” from her new CD
“Bette Midler Sings the
Rosemary Clooney Song
book."
The second half of the
show was as bizarre as it was
entertaining.
First she comes out as
Delores DeLago -The Toast of
Chicago.
In the “Fishtails Over
Broadway” section of the
show, she channels the wheel
chair bound singing mermaid
.as she crawls from a carnival
tent to Broadway, all the
while performing about a
dozen showtunes, including a
great parody of “All That
Jazz” called “All That Chad.”

Garland is a 1996 Brenau
graduate. Although a mass
communications major, her
career path had led her to the
arts as a professional singer.
She has performed with
Vince Gill, Clay Walker and
Patty Loveless among others.
“I’ve had opportunities
and experiences others can
only hope for— I know this
and I’m very thankful,” she
said. “But the reality is that
the music business is 90 per

head on straight means deal

Her citations include 2002

CCMA Nominee; 2002

After the Delores finale, a
video of television icon
Mister Rogers appears and
Bette turns serious and does a
posthumous duet of “I Like to
Be Told” with him.
From there she pulls out
all the stops with her greatest
hits including “From A
Distance,” “The Wind
Beneath My Wings,” an
encore of “The Rose” and the
closer “Friends.”
So compared to most other
shows. Bette Midler packed
quite a punch.
However, compared to her
own potential, I found her
show a bit lacking.
Sure, she brings a little bit
of Broadway to her concerts,
but I would have preferred she
bring a little bit of concert to
Broadway.
Bette belongs at a venue
like the Fox Theatre, and her
show could have benefited
from minor Broadway style

He was one of the most
infectious live performers I
had ever seen; he had an awe
some stage performance and
even gave the legendary
Aerosmith a run for their
money.
Gwinnett Arena is just the
right size for a Kid Rock
show and it will be a guaran

Atlanta native sing
er/songwriter Jackson Sneed
is releasing his debut album
at the Roxy on Friday as well,
and if you haven’t taken the
time to check him out this is
definitely the time.
You might also want to
check out Puddle of Mudd at
the Roxy tomorrow evening.
The band emerged in 2001
with their debut album
“Come Clean;” which
brought them to the forefront
of the pack of Creed sound
alikes.
However, with their new
release “Life on Display” the
band steps out of the shadows
and emerges as a significant
force on the music scene.
The band puts on a great
live show and it will likely be
the last chance to see the
band in a small venue like the
Roxy.
