(R-Cumming), announced
Friday that he would be a
candidate for re-election to
the Georgia House of
Representatives.
Murphy, who is now the
incumbent in the new House
District 23, made his
announcement after the fed
eral court finalized new

for the July primary.
“I'm a fast learner,” said
Murphy, “and I've learned a
tremendous amount during
my first two years. I've
learned how the game is
played.”
Murphy serves on the
Banks and Banking, Health
and Human Services, and
Public Utilities and
Telecommunications
Committees in the House.

Murphy was not opti
mistic the library money
would be approved by the
House.
“I think it’s going to be
very hard,” said Murphy. “If
we can hold them (the
library funds) in the budget it
would be great.”
Murphy said that he was
working to see if the $5 mil
lion, which was added to the
budget by Sen. Bill
Stephens. (R-Canton), could
be retained at the library’s
requested amount of $l.B
million.
He said that he would like
to see the Legislature agree
to place SBOO,OOO in final

Such an action would
push the timetable for the
classroom expansion ahead
by one year.

“We know that this proj

Stephens.
The budget is now in the
hands of a six-member con
ference committee, with
three members each from the
House and Senate.
The group met briefly on
Friday and planned a sec
ond meeting over the week
end to work out a final state
budget.
Murphy said that he is
already working with
Stephens and Reps. Tom
Knox and Amos Amerson,
who, if re-elected, would
comprise Forsyth’s legisla
tive delegation.
“I am hopeful that the
current delegation returns to
both the House and Senate,”
said Murphy. “That leaves a
continuity that is best for
Forsyth County with no
question.”
Stephens said that he was
pleased to know that the
issue of his district was now
settled.
“This was a shotgun wed
ding for all of us,” said
Stephens. “Once in a while
in these things the bride
looks pretty good.”
