Though state and local

“We’ve already started
working on plans to address
the changes,” said Smith. He
said that he hopes to have a
letter drafted by a county
attorney next week seeking
approval of the U.S. Justice

The changes primarily
affect voters in four precincts:

living east of Hwy. 9 would be
in the 9th House District,
while those living west of
Hwy. 9 would be in the 23rd.
• Chattahoochee Precinct:
Voters to the north of Pilgrim
Mill Road would be in the
23rd District, while south of
Pilgrim Mill would be in the
24th.

• Keep leaves and brush about 50 feet away from homes.
• Constantly supervise fires if you choose to bum and
keep piles small.
• Clean leaves and pine straw from roofs and gutters.
• Pay attention to the conditions around neighboring
homes.

the 27th District seat.
Smith said that getting
approval from the Justice
Department will take approxi
mately 40 days. He said that
another change, which is unre
lated to the redistricting, will
move the polling place in the
Johns Creek precinct from the
Lowe’s store to Johns Creek
Baptist Church.
He said that the church
offers a larger space with
ample parking. Some voters
currently voting at the St.
Mario precinct will be moved
into the Johns Creek voting
location.
Smith predicted that the
changes can be easily accco
modated by the touch-screen
voting system which was first
used in the 2002 elections.
Once approved, the elec
tions official said that new
voter registration cards would
be mailed to the county’s
60,000 registered voters.
