Web speeds certificate delivery
The Georgia Department of
Public Safety has announced a
new Web-based application that
will speed up delivery of state
Alcohol and Drug Awareness
Program certificates to young
drivers.
DPS Commissioner Col.
George Ellis said the new appli
cation will reduce the wait from
several weeks to just a few
days.
The Web application allows
school administrators to access
a secure Web site on the State
Web Portal and directly enter
the names of eligible students
into an online database. After
entering all of the names and
verifying their accuracy, the
instructor may print the certifi
cates directly on the local level.
"Prior to implementing the
new system, instructors sent in

FORSYTH COUNTY NEWS - Wednesday, March 31,2004 -1
After the employees left,
the thief stole SI,OOO cash and
exited through a door behind
the business, said Capt. Frank
Goss of the Cumming Police
Department.
A manager discovered the
cash missing when he returned
to the restaurant at 9 p.m. the
same night.
unconscious by the blows,
said Capt. Frank Goss of the
Cumming Police Department.
The boy suffered two black
eyes and other facial injuries.
He was treated and released
from Northside Hospital
Forsyth after the attack.
Robbery does not appear to
be the motive because nothing
was taken from the home,
Goss said.
"Somebody was very mad
at him," Goss said.
ADAP office in Atlanta," Ellis
said. “The office then entered
the data into a database and,
after several weeks, batches of
certificates were mailed back to
the originating instructor for
distribution to their students.”
Ellis noted that instructors
also will be able to query the
database of students and reprint
individual certificates on the
spot.
"This will allow a student
who has lost his or her ADAP
certificate to get a replacement
instantly." he said.
The Web-based system will
dramatically reduce the turn
around time for certification,
eliminate duplication of effort,
reduce or eliminate the daily
telephone calls checking the
status of the certificates and
improve the overall efficiency
of the ADAP system.
Police found no evidence
of broken glass or damage to
any of the doors at the restau
rant, leading them to suspect
the thief hid instead of break
ing into the business.
Anyone with information
about the theft is asked to call
the Cumming Police Depart
ment at (770) 781-2000.
The teen, whose name was
not released, reportedly
received death threats after the
attack.
Police currently are investi
gating whether the attack is
related to a previous domestic
dispute involving the teen,
according to Goss.
Anyone with information
about the case is asked to call
the Cumming Police
Department at (770) 781-
2000.
The Alcohol and Drug
Awareness Program is mandat
ed by Georgia law and is a part
nership between the
Department of Public Safety,
the Department of Education
and local law enforcement. The
program teaches teens ages 13
to. 17 about the dangers of driv
ing while intoxicated. A certifi
cate of completion is required
before a teenager can obtain a
Class D driver’s license.
Access to the new Web
application will be managed
by the Department of Public
Safety and the Georgia
Technology Authority (GTA)
will have the overall responsi
bility for hosting the system
on the portal computers. The
system was developed for the
Department of Public Safety
by Daugherty Business
Solutions of Atlanta.
