Cumming Southwest

p.m. The MOMS Club is an
International nonprofit support
group specifically for mothers
who have chosen to stay home
with their children. There are
more than 1,800 chapters in
seven countries, and they are
inviting you to visit the chap
ter here. The club offers a
variety of weekly activities for
stay-at-home mothers and
their children. In addition to
playgroups, park days and
other outings, the MOMS
Club sponsors activity groups
for members with common

The course is for mature driv
ers; it provides many ideas on
how to avoid accident situa
tions and how to enjoy safer
driving. Class participants are
required to attend both class
days to receive credit for the
course which entitles the par
ticipants to a discount on their
auto insurance premium. The
certificate of completion is
usually good for three years.

plants, preserves, and protects

Farm Family Ag and
Health Expo
... If you and your family
are involved in farming, plan
on joining us for the 2004
Farm Family Ag and Health
Expo on April 15 from 5:30-
8:30 p.m. at Habersham
Central High School. A free
barbecue dinner will be avail
able to those who register
ahead of time by calling their
local Cooperative Extension
Service before April 9. In
Forsyth County that number is

meal will begin at 7:15 p.m.
Area health professionals
will provide a variety of health
screenings. Many screenings
will be free but a small fee
may be charged for tests
requiring blood work. Possible
screenings and tests may
include: diabetes, cholesterol,
prostrate cancer, blood pres
sure, body fat analysis, hear
ing, dental, skin cancer, bone
density, colon cancer and oxy
gen saturation test. Health
exhibits and health counseling
will be available.
You w ill get the latest
information on farm safety,
farming supplies and equip
ment and trends in agriculture.
Many business and service
providers with agricultural
concerns will be exhibiting
their latest products and infor
mation.

the Farm Family Ag and
Health Expo 2(X)4 for the lat

you safe and healthy on the
farm, as well as hundreds of
dollars worth of free health

Charity Bike Ride
... hosted by the Bank of
North Georgia to benefit the
Georgia Cancer Coalition will
be Saturday, April 17, at 8
a.m. The course length will be
approximately 12 miles. The
start and finish will take place
at the Bank of North Georgia
Alpharetta, 8025 Westside
Pkwy, (comer of Haynes
Bridge Road and Westside
Parkway). All participants will
be asked to make a minimum
$25 tax-deductible donation
made payable to the Georgia
Cancer Coalition. Participants
will receive an event T-shirt
and water bottle. If you do not
have a bike. Cycleworks and
TREK will have a few bicy
cles available for use during
the event on a first come, first
service basis for pre-registered
riders. You may register in
advance or on the morning of
the ride. The limit is 50 partic

Care

Injury Prevention Institute and
the Governor’s Office of
Highway Safety. The training
w ill be Monday. April 19.

two hours of DHR accepted
credit (ECE-2). The cost of

Riding Safely in Child
Care was developed in
Georgia specifically to
increase awareness of the need
for child care providers to
transport children using cur
rent best practice recommen
dations. This two hour training
addresses the following topics:
Georgia law, crash dynamics,
types of seats, gross misuse,
liability issues, and resources
available in local regions.
The instructors for the
course will be Griggs Wall,
Regional Coordinator with the
Georgia Traffic Injury
Prevention Institute and
myself, Debbie Wilburn,
University of Georgia
Cooperative Extension
Service, County Agent for
Forsyth and Hall counties.
Chattahoochee
Elementary PTO
... will host a community
festival and thrift sale at the
school on Holtzclaw Road on
Saturday, April 17. There will
be a moon jump, kids games
and prizes, food, drinks, a raf
fle, a presentation by the
school chorus, a live band and
thrift sale treasures. The thrift
sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. and the festival from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. The rental fee
for a parking space with a
table is S2O and for a parking

Spring Plant Sale
... The Forsyth County
Master Gardeners and the
Cumming Garden Club will
have its Spring Plant Sale dur
ing the County Yard Sale at
the Cumming Fairgrounds on
April 17, from 8 a.m. to noon
or until all plants are sold. The
plants are grown locally by
members of each organization
and include perennials, herbs,
ground covers and shrubs.
Road Race
... The Windermere third
annual 5K Road Race will be
Saturday, April 17, at 8 a.m.
with a one mile Fun Run start
ing at 7:30 a.m. Both races
will begin at the Windermere
Lodge off of Windermere
Parkway in Cumming. The
course will lead runners
through the rolling hills of the
community, with scenic views
of the Davis Love 111-designed
golf course. Proceeds from the
race will be donated to Daves
Creek Elementary School in
support of a school fundraiser
■benefiting Relay For Life. A
24-hour, community-based
event. Relay For Life was .
designed to celebrate survivor
ship and raise money for the f <
