Spring cleaning starts with the Great American Cleanup
The sun is shining, the
bees are buzzing and volun
teers all over the county are
participating in litter cleanups
and community improvement
projects.
On April 1, Keep Forsyth
County Beautiful (KFCB)
kicked off the celebration of
the Great American Cleanup,
a national Keep America
Beautiful event that entered its
19th year in March. According
to Jennifer Szabo, director of
Keep Forsyth County
Beautiful, there is already a
strong county participation as
this event gets under way.

state presidents of the 4-H and
Youth Program and Future
Fanners of America.
Agriculture contributes
more than 557 billion annually
to the Georgia economy.
One out of seven Georgians
work in agriculture, forestry or
a related sector. For more

Earth Day poster winners receive awards
The Pro Earth Group and
Keep Forsyth County
Beautiful recently teamed up
to ask the children of Forsyth
County what they think of
Earth Day.
The answer was found in
over 1,000 posters created by
public, private and home
school students. On Monday,
March 29, at local coffee
house. CT Grinders, 37 county
students winners gathered
together with family and
teachers to celebrate the clos
ing of the Earth Day Poster
Contest.
The contest has become a
part of the annual Pro Earth
Day Expo celebration.
Schools were invited to partic
ipate in the contest and two
finalists were chosen from
each group. Those winners
will receive special prize
packs contributed by local
businesses such as Dairy
Queen and Advantis
Technologies.

This year. KFCB will par
ticipate in the Great American
Cleanup the entire month of
April. The event has a strong
focus on litter cleanups but
other beautification projects,
such as planting trees or build
ing birdhouses also are
encouraged.
KFCB invites residents to
participate in hands-on activi
ties that dramatically improve
the county, creating a healthi
er, cleaner and safer environ
ment.

the Pro Earth Day Expo at the
Cumming Fairgrounds on
April 17th and the KFCB
EARTHFEST at Central Park
on April 24.

Sorrells named 9th District Clerk
of the year
Forsyth County Clerk of Court Douglas Sorrells was
named the 2004 Ninth Judicial Administrative District Clerk
of the Year. The award was presented Friday at the County
Courthouse. For the past three years, Sorrells has served as
the chairman for Ninth District Clerks. The award cites
Sorrells' "Contributions to other Clerks, the Citizens of
Forsyth County and the State of Georgia. He will be recog
nized at the annual Spring conference along with other
clerks who have been selected as clerks for their district.
One of the clerks will be selected as Clerk of the Year for the
State of Georgia.
