program
... classes will be at the
Northside Hospital Forsyth
Medical Center Professional
Building located in Cumming
at 1200 Northside Forsyth Dr.
The dates are Wednesday,
April 14. and Thursday, April
15, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The course is for mature driv
ers; it provides many ideas on
how to avoid accident situa
tions and how to enjoy safer
driving. Class participants are
required to attend both class
days to receive credit for the
course which entitles the par
ticipants to a discount on their
auto insurance premium. The
certificate of completion is
usually good for three years.

charge of $lO per person due
the first day to cover course
materials.
Holly Walquist
... director of Marietta’s
Tree Keepers, a successful
volunteer run program which
plants, preserves, and protects
trees, will be at the Sawnee
Cultural Arts Center at 7 p.m.
on Thursday, April 15.

their grant from the Georgia
Forestry Commission, which

Earthday Expo 2004

American Clean Up
Volunteers, the Pro Earth
Group will give a free lunch to
those volunteers that have reg
istered a clean up with Keep
Forsyth County Beautiful at

Charity Bike Ride
... hosted by the Bank of
North Georgia to benefit the
Georgia Cancer Coalition will
be Saturday, April 17, at 8
a.m. The course length will be
approximately 12 miles. The
start and finish will take place
at the Bank of North Georgia
Alpharetta, 8025 Westside
Pkwy, (comer of Haynes
Bridge Road and Westside
Parkway). All participants will
be asked to make a minimum
$25 tax-deductible donation
made payable to the Georgia
Cancer Coalition. Participants
will receive an event T-shirt
and water bottle. If you do not
have a bike. Cycleworks and
TREK will have a few bicy
cles available for use during
the event on a first come, first
service basis for preregistered
riders. You may register in
advance or on the morning of
the ride. The limit is 50 partic

Chattahoochee
Elementary PTO
... will host a community
festival and thrift sale at the
school on Holtzclaw Road on
Saturday, April 17. There will
be a moon jump, kids games
and prizes, food, drinks, a raf
fle. a presentation by the
school chorus, a live band and
thrift sale treasures. The thrift
sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. and the festival from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. The rental fee
for a parking space with a
table is S2O and for a parking

Spring Plant Sale

Master Gardeners and the
Cumming Garden Club will
have its Spring Plant Sale dur
ing the County Yard Sale at
the Cumming Fairgrounds on
April 17, from 8 a.m. to noon
or until all plants are sold. The
plants are grown locally by
members of each organization
and include perennials, herbs,
ground covers and shrubs.
Road Race
... The Windermere third
annual 5K Road Race will be
Saturday, April 17. at 8 a.m.
with a one mile Fun Run start
ing at 7:30 a.m. Both races
will begin at the Windermere
Lodge off of Windermere

24-hour, community-based
event, Relay For Life was

Preserve

Day Extravaganza on Sunday,

focus of the day is children

AARP Driver Safety
program
... a one-day class will be

Northside Hospital Forsyth,

Center Dr. in Cumming. The
refresher course is open to
AARP and non-AARP mem
bers.
Though the material is
designed primarily for drivers
age 50 and over, younger driv
ers may attend. It provides
many ideas on how to avoid
accidents, drive safely and
update the motor vehicle laws.
Participants who complete the
eight hours of instruction are
eligible for a discount on their
automobile insurance premi- ,
um. The course must be
renewed every three years. For

Norman’s Landing
... will have its eighth
annual “Tax Relief Tuesday”
on Tuesday, April 27, at the
Chestatee Golf Club in
Dawsonville. The entry fee for
the event is $275 per golfer
and corporate sponsorships
are available for $1,200. For
the past eight years Norman’s
Landing has raised more than
$190,000 for The United Way
of Forsyth County.
Lunch and dinner will be
provided by Norman’s
Landing. Chestatee Ford pro
vides the “Hole-In-One” car,
and there are great prizes for
the winners as well as many
items available at the silent
auction.
Proceeds will benefit The
United Way of Forsyth
County.
Broadway
... is coming to Dawson
ville. North Georgia will be
treated to a special evening of
musical theater on May 1
when the Dawson Community
Chorale and the NGCSU
Madrigal Singers will present
their spring concert “A Night
on Broadway.” The concert
will feature selections from
shows such as “Show Boat.”
“Fiddler on the Roof,”
“Phantom of the Opera." “Les
Miserables,” and many other
popular Broadway musicals.
The concert will be under
the direction of Dr. Lee G.
Barrow, and accompanist of
Mrs. Tricia Wester.
The concert will be at 7:30
p.m. in the main sanctuary of
Dawsonville First Baptist
Church on Hwy. 9 North.
Admission is free; donations
are encouraged.
