• Cify council members
unanimously agreed to extend
sewer service along Hwy. 20
(Buford Highway) east to
Echols Road at their April
meeting.
A residential developer,
Echols Highway 20
Development Company Inc.,
will construct a pump station
on Echols Road and the sewer
line to help the city reach the
goal of: ervicing the area, city
utilities director Jon Heard
toid council members.

station would then pump the
wastewater to another station
located on Samples Road,
according to Heard. City offi
cials expect the sewer expan
sion to be completed by the
end of the summer. The addi
tional capacity could allow
other nearby homeowners city
sewer service. New residential
customers are charged a
$4,000 sewer cap fee per
home and a monthly usage
fee.
• The council reviewed the
results of the city’s audit per
formed by Leßoy, Cole and
Stephens. The city’s general
f und has $95 million in assets
and S9O million in equity,
according to the firm. The city
generated $7.6 million in gen
eral revenue last year and had
$6.7 million in expenditures.
T he city's water depart
ment saw a slight decrease in
assets due to a cash payoff of
bonds, according to Jeff

Stephens. The payoff will put
the city in good shape to build
a planned S2O million wa'er
plant, said Gravitt. A decrease
in the city’s revenue from tap
fees and sewer fees is due to
the fact the city’s system is
near capacity, said Stephens.
Council members
approved a bid from Elert &
Associates of $14,750 to per
form a vulnerability assess
ment of ali the city's critical
water infrastructure. The fed
eral Department of Homeland
Security and Environmental
Protection Agency is requiring
the assessment be made in
connection with emergency
response plan requirements.
Council members adopted
a proclamation of May 12 as

tion.
