Winifred Amelia Ackley
Winifred Amelia Ackley, 83,
of Dawsonville died Friday,
April 23, 2004.
A native of Pittsfield, Mass.,
Mrs. Ackley had resided in
Dawsonville for the past 20
years, moving here from
Albuquerque, N.M. She was a
retired licensed practical nurse
and a member of Deer Creek
Shores Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include sons,
Douglas Ackley of Peru, Mass.,
Bruce Ackley of Roswell;
daughters. Coralie Ingraham of
Dalton. Mass.. Maxine Tatrow
of Dalton, Mass., Wendy Fox of
Woodstock. Robin Marauszwski
of Dawsonville; 17 grandchil
dren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are
Monday. April 26, at 7 p in. at
Deer Creek Shores Presbyterian
Church with the Revs. James H.
Kelso and John Tarrant officiat
ing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to
the Georgia Chapter of the

James Chester Avery , 73. of
Glenwood died Thursday, April
22.2004.
Mr. Avery was the son of the
late Chester A. and Ellen Avery
and was a retired iron worker.
He has served in the U.S. Navy.

Joyce Mitchell Baker
Mrs. Joyce Mitchell Baker.
74, of Rome, formerly of
Adairsville, died Wednesday,
April 21.2004. She was a mem
ber of Adairsville Baptist
Church. She retired after 30
years of service from the med
ical practice of Doctors Gray
Dickinson, and Rutledge in
Rome. She was preceded in
death by her husband. Paul E.
Baker; brothers. Richard and
albert Mitchell: and sister. Edna
Mitchell Dyer.
Survivors include her sons
and daughters-in-law, Ed and
Anita Baker of Rome, John and
Candy Baker of Cumming, and
Michael and Melanie Baker of
Rome; one brother. Horton
Mitchell of Adairsville; X grand
children; one great-grandchild;
nieces and nephews also sur
vive.
Funeral services were
Saturday at Adairsville Baptist
Church with the Revs. Tai
Roberts, Mark Sargent and
Allen Fuller officiating.
Interment followed in
Eastview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to Adairsville
Baptist Church or Heyman
Hospice Care of Rome/Floyd
County.

Miss Mary Lou (Myrt)
Donaldson, 92, of Cumming,
died Wednesday. April 21. 2004.
Miss Donaldson had been a
longtime resident of Chestnut
Ridge Nursing Center.
Survivors include several
nieces, nephews and other rela
tives.
Funeral services were Friday
at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Tom Burdette officiat
ing.

Lota Hawkins
Leta Hawkins, 85, of
Cumming died Friday, April
2, 2004.
Mrs. Hawkins was a native
and life long resident of
Forsyth County and was an
active member of Zion Hill
Baptist Church. She was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
Sam Hawkins; sister, Claudine
Loggins; brothers, W.J. (Bud)
Hood and Jack Hood.
Survivors include sisters,
Wanda Cowart of Canton;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat
and Nellie Hood of Cumming,
Arnold and Jean Hood of
Dawsonville; a number of
nieces, nephews and other rel
atives also survive.
Funeral services were
Sunday, April 4, at Ingram
Funeral Home Chapel with the
Revs. Hughlen Cochran,
Harold Bottoms, Gary Coffey
officiating.

Sheila Gay Nalley
Mrs. Sheila Gay Nalley, 46,
of Cumming died Thursday.
April 22, 2004. A native of
Dade County, Fla., she had
lived in Cumming since 1987.
She was a homemaker and a
Baptist.
She was preceded in death
by her father, James Tomes;
sister, Carol Tomes; and broth
er, Tommy Tomes.
Survivors include her hus
band, George Nalley of
Cumming; son and daughter
in-law, David and Amy Nalley
of Milton, Fla.; mother.
Pauline Blanton of Cumming;
sister. Deborah Tomes of
Cumming; brothers and sis
ters-in-law. Phillip and Janet
Tomes of Cumming, Todd and
Lisa Blanton of Dawsonville;
aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be
held Monday, April 26. at 2
p.m. at McDonald and Son
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Jim Gaines officiating.
Interment will be at Sawnee
View Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive
friends Sunday from 2 to 4
p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at

Myrtle “Dale" Spires
Mrs. Myrte “Dale” Spires.
61, of Concord died Thursday,
April 22. 2004. She was a mem
ber of the Concord Baptist
Church. She was preceded in
death by her son, Ronnie Spires,
and her parents, Taz and Dorris
Pair.
Survivors include her hus
band of 41 years, Clois Spires;
son and daughter-in-law, Scott
and Michele Spires of Concord;
brothers and sisters-in-law,
Doyle and JoAnn Pair of
Columbus, Henry and Carolyn
Pair of Cumming; sister and
brother-in-law. Winnie and
Eugene Allen of Conyers;
grandchildren, Victoria, Ronnie,
Brianna and Danielle.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Sunday. April 25, at 1:30
p.m. in the chapel of Moody
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Doug Ledford officiating. A
committal service will follow at
4:30 p.m. in the Sawnee View
Gardens in Cumming.

Grace Wanlck Steck
Grace Wanick Steck of
Cumming, formerly of Lilburn,
died Thursday, April 22, 2004.
Grace was a registered nurse
and worked in pediatrics in
Columbus, Ohio, before moving
to Georgia in 1947. She
returned to nursing many years
later and worked at the director
of nursing at Elks Aidmore
Hospital before retiring.
She was preceded in death
by her husband. George; daugh
ter. Bonnie ; sons. Jack and Jay.
Survivors include son. Bob and
his wife Pat of Cumming; nine
grandchildren; four great-grand
children;

Monday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at
Ingram Funeral Home with the
Rev. Phil Connell officiating.

funeral home transaction is a
culmination of a friendship
that began shortly after
Royston Ingram, Sr. opened
his funeral business in 1928.
“My dad received a call to
pick up a body at Georgia
Baptist Hospital in Atlanta. In
those days, the road to Atlanta
was dirt for most of the way.
We had been through a
tremendous rain and by the

with his foot on the bumper of
the hearse. The man was H.M.

He said that Patterson
ridiculed his father for operat
ing such a dirty hearse. When
the senior Ingram explained
that he drove the car through
ruts to get to the city, the two
men became the best of
friends.
Today, 76 years later, the
great-grandson of Patterson
becomes the owner of the
funeral home started by the
man with the mud-coated
hearse.
