State Botanical Gardens of Georgia
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a
public educational facility operated under the
auspices of the University of Georgia. It is a living
laboratory for university students and faculty- who
utilize the collections and natural plant commu¬
nities for studies in a variety of disciplines. It is
also a public garden for enjoyment by the general
public who find beauty-, knowledge and solitude
in a natural setting. The garden is located approx¬
imately three miles south of the university cam¬
pus. Founded in I%8, it encompasses more than
300 acres, much of which borders the Middle
Oconee River.

Kids INK: Interactive Neighborhood 6 for

is a one-of-a-kind, fun destination for the whole
family. Interactive Neighborhood for Kids Inc., or
INK, located in Gainesville, is a hands-on chil¬
dren's museum where kids can role play and learn
through practical experiences of being a banker,
grocery store clerk, doctor, dentist and much
more. All exhibits are designed to provide a

unique experience and to actively engage young
minds. INK will offer a number of special activi¬
ties throughout the summer months, including
special craft days and homeschool and Father's
Day activities.

Alpine Helen
Located to the northeast of Forsyth County, the
small town of Helen offers a unique Bavarian
theme. Helen is a re-creation of an alpine village,
complete with cobblestone alleys and old-world
towers. It offers visitors shopping, camping, both
rustic and luxury mountain cabins, restaurants,
bed and breakfast inns, mountains, theater and
recreation. Guests can also enjoy romantic get¬
aways, beautiful scenery, family activities, water¬
falls, museums, history, art, fishing, tubing, golf
and more. There's something for every member of

hot air balloon race, Winefcst, Volksmarch,

Unicoi State Park
and Lodge
In the north Georgia
Mountains just outside
Helen, Unicoi is one of
Georgia’s most beloved
state parks. Outdoor
enthusiasts can enjoy
hiking and mountain
biking on scenic moun¬
tain trails, including an
easy lake loop, chal¬
lenging trek to Anna
Ruby Falls, pretty three-mile trail to downtown
Helen and rugged 7.5-mile single track for bikers.
The cool mountain lake offers a swimming beach
and canoe rental during summer. Overnight
guests can choose from a hotel-style lodge, fully
equipped cottages and modern campground. The
parks restaurant is known for its nightly moun¬
tain trout buffet, while craft lovers should not
miss the lodge’s gift shop with pottery, quilts and
other crafts.

Tallulah Gorge State Park
One of the most spectacular canyons in the
eastern United States, Tallulah Gorge is two miles
long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. A suspension
bridge sways 80 feet above the rocky bottom, pro¬
viding spectacular views of the river and water¬
falls. A paved path follows an on old railroad bed,
perfect for strollers and bicycles, while mountain
bikers can test their skills on a challenging
