Looking
Mv office is usually pretty neat and
tidy as well since l spend a large part
of my day in there writing, making
calls, etc. Sometimes, when I have
numerous projects going on, it may
appear unorganized on my desk, but it
is always an organized chaos and I
know where everything is and how it
will get done.
Having multiple things going on is
something I'm used to. It turns out
having four children in less than seven
years is good training for all sorts of
things in the business world, not the
least of which is supreme multitask¬
ing.
So if 1 am so organized, why is this
always on my list? Because there are
always things I don’t necessarily enjoy
doing that need to be done. For exam¬
ple, I haven’t been in our attic in
years. I know it is not pretty and needs
to be thoroughly cleaned out.
Ditto our closet. 1 am sure my chest
of drawers needs to be gone through
as well. Then there is always our
youngest son’s closet. That actually
frightens me a bit. All of those proj¬
ects are on the current 2013 list.
The biggest goal for me in 2013 is
completing my first cookbook.
Perhaps I am saying it publicly so I
will give it my full attention.

Clifford, who first
appeared in books, was
one of my favorite char¬

couldn’t be happier he’s
held off on retirement
long enough that I can
relive that nostalgia
through my son.
It’s definitely not like
Sesame Street and some
of the Disney shows,
where there are some
jokes for adults hidden in
the show. But for kids,
it’s a lot of fun and helps
promote reading.
Some of the bigger
shows on the horizon are
the Blue Man Group and
the Producers at the Fox
Theatre in January, Sarah
Brightman at the Fox

Philips Arena in February.
In March, Jerry

and friends and visualizing its comple¬
tion. Now that three of our four chil¬
dren are basically out on their own, l
want to pass on the family meals they
were raised on.
I have so many fond memories of
cooking for our family and breaking
bread together. Of course, I hope to
have many more meals with our fami¬
ly and friends, but I would love to
have a cookbook that contains all of
those recipes.
So there. I have said it to my little
world, and now l have to do it.
Hopefully soon I will be telling all of
you about its release.
Happy New Year to all of my read¬

and happiness in 2013.

Weight-loss or other health or
nutrition resolutions are some of the
top choices for people at the start of
a new year.
Michele Melton. Forsyth County
extension agent, said statistics show
that more than one-third of American
adults are obese and nearly two
thirds overweight, which make
weight loss a particularly common
goal.
As for the timing at the start of a
year, Melton said the “overindul¬
gence” during the holidays can cause
people to make a weight-loss resolu¬
tion.
“It’s just kind of on the heels of
putting on an extra pound or two,"
she said. “Whether it has to do with
losing weight, or being more
healthy, the bottom line is lifestyle
changes.”
Deals or promotions from health
related industries often pop up at the
new year, which Melton said can
also be a cause of people seeking to

people like me have

they are.

released his album,
“Crow; New Songs for

plans.
She said the “tried and true” meth¬
od of losing weight with diet and
exercise is the only way to truly
attain that goal in a healthy way.
A resolution. Sessions said, could
also be considered an “effort to
change habits,” and it’s well known
that old habits die hard.
“Remind yourself why you’re
doing this, why this is the goal, and
why this is important," he said.
It's also important to share that
information with someone else who
w ill keep you accountable.
Whether it’s a Web site communi¬
ty, a friend or a professional coach,
that group or person is designed to
keep a goal-seeker on track.
Measuring progress instead of fail¬
ures will keep someone from relaps¬
ing on a goal.
Any counter-productivity in reach¬
ing a goal. Sessions said, needs to be
viewed as a learning experience.
If someone who resolves to quit
smoking lights up, for example, he
said that presents an opportunity to
review what triggered that habit and
how to prevent it in the future.
“Instead of beating yourself up ...
know that that’s going to happen,” he
said. "The important fact is to
remember it’s a slip. It’s not back to
square one.”
The year is full of festi¬
vals too, including:
Winter Jam in February;
Atlanta Dogwood Festival
in April; Atlanta Jazz
Festival in May; Van’s
Warped Tour in July; and
Music Midtown Festival
in September.
Tickets are on sale for
some of the bigger shows,
so don’t delay to ensure
you get to see everything
on your 2013 wish list.
Until then, have a
happy, safe and healthy
new year’s celebration.
