born in the year 1677, and is now 109 years old.
This old man has lived to fee seven Sovereigns
wield the British feeptre ; and in the evening of
life has the happiness to fee liberty dawning in the
weft, under _the auspices of a new and rising em
pire eftabliffied in those wilds, and on those ihores,
of which but a iliort time since the eaftern-woiid
was poffefi'ed of a knowledge.

We hear that Dr. White, Superintendant of
Indian Affairs, who returned here from the Creek
I nation on Saturday last, has appealed the minds of
I the Indians for the present.

I Suing year, when his Excellency Arthur St. Clair,

His Excellency Thomas Chittenden, Esq. Go
r| vernor of the State of Vermont, on the 27th of
j J February last, issued a Proclamation, ftriftly com-
I manding and enjoining it upon all the citizens of
I that state not to harbour, entertain or conceal,
I Daniel Shays, Luke Day, Adam Wheeler, and

I I to iflue their warrants, when required, to appre-
I hend and convey the aforefaid perfons,' or either

The Legislature of the commonw'ealth of Virgi

Accounts from North-Carolina fay—A law has
pal Ted which enaXs, that no more than one lawyer
lhali for the future fpeaß for each party, in any
court of the Hate. By the fame law the jurifdiXion
of justices of the peace, out of court, has been ex
tended to all sums not exceeding twenty pounds.
A late London Paper fays, that the Britilh Par
liament, which was tohave met on the 14th of De
cember last, was prorogued to the 23d of January,
when it was declared, divers weighty and import
ant affairs would be laid before them i that the
French are ftreugthening their connexions with
America, by taking off their hands their tobacco,
the consumption of which in France (in fnuff prin
cipally) amounts to 40,000 hoglheads annually*
while that of England does not far exceed 10,000
hoglheads ; and that about 300 conviXs had been
embarked for Botany Bay.

merchantable bricks for the public build
ings, to be delivered in Government Square; there
is clay, wood, and water on the public land. Any
person inclined to undertake will please fend their
proposals, sealed up, to Hugh Lawfou, at Lewis
ville, on or before the firft day of June next, at
which 'time such proposals will be opened, and the
lowed terms accepted, on the parties giving secu
rity for the performance. * One half of the moucy
will be paid on the bricks being kilned, the other
half to be paid on the bricks being delivered. The
bricks to be delivered withiu three months from
the time of undertaking.
All persons who are indebted for Lots in Lewis- .
ville, will please to take notice, that unless they
difehargethe fame without loss of time, the Com*
milfioners will be obliged to proceed according to

AK.EN up by the fubferiber, living in Greene
I. county, on a creek called Shouldei bone,
the waters of the Oconee, an outlandish NEGRO
FELLOW, goes by the name of Guy, appears to
be thirty years ofd or upwards, has on a Negro
cotton jacket and overhalls, and country cloth
under jacket, old flioes, no hat, has his country
marks on his cheeks and arms, he is about five feet
nine or ten inches high, and fays he came about
from the Savannah, speaks very broken. Who
mever owns said Negro may get him by applying
to the fubferiber, and proving his property.

evening, between Mr. Harris’s, Augusta,
and the Beaver Dams, A red Morocco Pocket
Book, containing a bond of Mr. John Myers, fuu
dry notes, receipts, accounts, and letters. Who
mever finds the said Pocket Book and will deliver
it to Mefirs. Ross and Currie, in Augusta, or the
fubferiber in Savannah, (hall receive ONE GUI
NEA REWARD.
