ORIGINAL POETRY.
A MEMENTO of the late Williams Green t Esq.
Ojlendent terris bunc tantum fata , neque ultra
Ijjfe fntnt. Virgil.
TO weep the fad loss of a friend,
Melpomene lend me a tear,
A loss I bewail without end,
Our friendfhip is true and sincere.
Just in the meridian of time,
The Laurel just wreathing his head,
Behold him drop off in his prime,
Entomb’d with the patriot dead.
His country, the firft of his care,
Fvequefting his council in peace,
Alike knew him fam’d whilst in war,
When danger detatch’d him from ease.
•
But why is our sorrow thus great?
Buch change we must all undergo j
Death only the foul can tranllate,
To bliss from our troubles below.
