XT# bejeech thee to hear us , gwtf ;
That it may please thee to shield us from
the rage of malicious and disappointed men,
and to strengthen us in the principles of the
Federal Constitution, so as to enable us to
triumph over all the enemies thereof, that so
hereafter we may attain to a government
which will have such energy and ftabilitv as
wHI be adequate to the exigenfcies of the
union.
We bef'ech thee to hear us, good Lord;
That it may please thee to save from anar

AUGUSTA July i 9.
It is with the greatest pleasure we inform
the public, that on Wednesday the 25th of
June last, the Convention of Virginia adopted
the federal Constitution. Yeas 82. Nays

Extrads of letters from gentlemen in Alexan
dria, Virginia > dated June 29.
« This day our town is all alive with joy
and madness, on account of our Srates’s adop
tion of the new government, as also New-
JHainplhire.”
“ I have nothing more to add, but that ten
dates have now adopted the Federal Govern-
Inent. ,,
It would afford us infinite pleasure if our
information was so perfect concerning the
Academic Society in this place, which, altho*
in embryo, has already a constitution framed;
that we could give the outlines of it to the
public, and gratify our own with in contri
buting every thing in our power to the pro
motion of this literary institution : Our in
formation extends thus far—-The Society will
meet on Saturdays, once a fortnight—-there
will be a President for the day, and each mem*
mer in rotation shall in that capacity;
the President will declaim upon a fubjett
given out the prccceding meeting ; and when
he Hull have finifhed his oration, a criticism
upon the fame (hail be required from every
member pi efent—at a certain hour the doors
will be open, and forenfic deputations com
mence—new members will be admitted by
ballot—-an elegant design for a seal, and pro
per mottos are agreed uyon, which is to be
affixed to the diploma of any member who
may be about t<* travel, or who may find it
ueceffary for other purposes. We are sorry
that the constitution itfelf is not inserted in-
Head of this imperfeft, deficient and incorreft
account of it.
On Tuefday last was to have been married
Mr. Titus Hollingor of this place to MiJ's
Martha Andrews of Burke county, who, in
stead of adorning herfelf for the nuptial rites,
took the wings of the morning, bore off what
of the feftiye and decoratory preparations were
portable, and so disappeared to the utter dis
may of the baulked bridegroom.—Various
conje&ures have been formed with refpett to
this elopement—among others, the great dis
parity in point of age has been urged—but
this may be easily obviated, when we confi
<ler that Mr. HoJlinger has within these last
three years (al hough he must now be faft
approximating, if not already past, his grand
climaftric) as often entered the lifts of matri
mony as that uxorious monarch Henry VIII.
of England did in the whole course of his life
—so that we are forced to admit any other
rcafou sooner than this.
