Our Magnanimous Mayor.
The readers of the TRIBUNE will rec I
feci that in the last issue but one, mentioi
was made of Rev Ellis being cited bef> r
ths Mayor upon the statement of a police
man. that he had obstructed him in anforc
ing a city ordinance, and that the Mayor
had imposed a fine for the alleged offence
and that the case would be appealed. Last
week Col. Lester, who probsblv ex->m n d
mo.e carefully into the case, sent for Mr.
Ellis and caused the fine to be remi'ted and
the proper entry made to that effect on the
record This disposition < f the case meets
Che approval of Mr Ellis* counsel and
friends, and the action of .he Mayor in doing
this act of justice to this etn intent divine
and relieving him from the appearance o
standing as a violator ot the law is very
highly commended
