Joshua Burke, Esq.’ a well known
colored citizen died at his residence in
this city on M* nday last. Mr. Burke
was a cooper by trade which profession
he followed until a few weeks of his
death. His funeral took place on Tues
day afternoon from the First
African Baptist church of which he
was a member.
Cob Barnard E, Bee the efficient
clerk of the Superior Court died sud
denly of heart disease at his home, Isle
•f Hope on Thursday morning. Col.
Bee was an old county officer and was
popular with all classes. His place will
be temporarily filled by J. K. P. Carr.
Esq., the efficient deputy clerk until
January, when an election will be held
to fill the vacancy.
Drake’s Magazine, which has
appeared aa the successor of "Drake’s”
Travelers’ Magazine,” is a publication
that will recommend itself to every
body. This magazine contains 64
pages of illustrations aud reading mat
ter, and seeks public favor at the pop
ular price of Ten Cents a copy. The
opening number promises to be instruc
tive, entertaining and amusing. Its con
tributors are among the cleverest

A Dead Infant Found.
Considerable excitement was occasioned bv
the finding yesterday morning of a dead in
fant in a coal box in the yard of M»n*r*
Finn Bro*., on Weet Broad and Huntingdon
street*. Dr*. Chiaholm and Norton declared
it to be an eight month child and was of the
opinion that it was born dead No fact* were
elicited at the coroner'* inquest that gave
any light a* to the parentage The Finn
Bro*., are enterprising and pro*perou* gro

what they regard as the work of toms paid
hireling in placing the dead baby on their
premise*, and offer a reward of 125 for the
apprehension of the guilty parties
