Reception.
The H. M. Centennial Club of the

Scho 1 tendered a reception on Tuesday
even.i g the 12th instant, in honor ,f
the ministers and Sund.ay School work
ers io attendance upon the centennial
A gr at many responded to the invita

Rev. Simms, marched down for refresh

in wming, The table was blessed by
Rev. Houston, and the welcome address
by Rev. Simms. Speeches and toasts
were made by Revs. White, Walker,
Carter, Roberson and others.
Dedicated.
On Sunday the 10th instant, the
First Bryan Baptist Church was dedi
cated. The church was crowded to its
utmost capacity with an attentive audi
ence. The dedication sermon was
preached by Rev. E. R. Carter of At
lanta, who did justice to his subject.
After the ceremonies, Rev. J. M. Simms
presented Rev. U. L, Houston, the pas
tor, with a fine communion service. The
Bingi ig on the occasion was excellent.
A Nuisance.
Th- authorities should be more vigil
ant io suing that th** city is void of
nuisances. Every Sunday afternoon
there can be found a crowd of boys and
young men congregated on Bryan and
West Broad streets, playing ball and
using all kinds of words to the annoy
ance of the passers by and the neigh
borhood. There are instanc s where
ladies and gentlemen passing are insult
ed and dare not reply tor fear of the
erowd. Several times we have passed
there and came very near being struck
with a ball. All such assemblies should
be dispersed, and our efficient chief
should attend to it at once.

An Explanation.
Editor of the Tribune; Slß:—ln your
last issue their appeared a charge of
‘ Red Tape” management at the Geor
gia Infirmary and through which cruel
means, probably, one poor soul has been
sent to his grave. As such a charge
reflects severely upon the manage*,
me n t and those in charge
of the institution do me justice in allow
ing me to clear myself in the eyes of the
friends <<f the institution of this charge
of shameful inhumanity, as there are
many who would readily believe that I
am the guilty party. Ou the day of
this occurrei ce I was in Beaufoit on a
little recreation, but heard of it on my
returu. It was a mistake on part of
the nurse not to have taken in a patient
in the unfortunate’s condition without
the usual permit from the proper au
thorities. The nurse was a new em
ployee, new to bis occupation and did
not under t ed his duti s as vet, clearly

Georgia Infirmary will feel reli-ved to
know that the matter has been ftiliy in
vestigated immediately after its occur

Os course the institution will still verv
feebly, continue to enforce its "ule-, and
all features of the disgusting ‘‘n d tape”
will be removed. But supposing that
the investigation was held severely as it
was demanded what would be the re.
suit* Simply that the offending nuise
would lose—to the senses of some very
delicate people—a dirty, filthy and hor
rible employment which only pavs him
the miserable sum of 810 00 per month.
If this would afford satisfaction tn the
demand for invest’gation, then I would
like to know where are we drilling
Very Respectfully.
