A large number of mouthv Ne

gcheir time in criticizing and finding
heiault with the Tribune it
not do as they think. Thes<
LJelluws have neither the courage c -
pacity nor inclination to do any
thing themselves for their race-
They are generally fellows who wiP
not support a colored paper. bu l
will buy a newspaper 365 times tt
a year that kicks and abuses them-
They are mostly a nondescript
crowd ot whose chief aim
in life seems to be to find fault
about what has not been done, and
never see what has been and is be
ing done by others. The Tribune
is the defender of principles as they
affect the Negro race. It is not to
be drawn from that purpose. The
fault finding fellows will support
nothing that looks to elevating
themselves or their race. They de
serve to be kicked.

Col. J. H. Deveaux; Dear Sir:—
Allow me to say that on last Satur
day 14th tilt., tho Republicans of
Jefferson county heid their mass
meeting at the court hou-e in Loui
ville, G«„ and several speeches
were imide by gentlemen in be
half of the noble old party. Mr.
Editor yo know that I have said
that Jefferson county was about
dead, but 1 am willing tc- take back
a part of what 1 said about her. 1
was notified by the chairman to
meet, on the 14th, which 1 did. On
entering the bouse I found many
whom I thought not there, and now
, 1 began to think that the party
means business sure. Tho gentle
men who spoke did it with earnest*
nest of heart and meant just what
they said. Tho meeting was harm
’ onions; they seemed to be in earn
est about the matter now, We ad
‘ journed to meet again the second
Saturday in August with a deter
mination to put our own men in
the race. 1 will not mention can (IQ

• Mclntosh, Ga., July 10, ’BB.
] A public mass meeting of the
j Republicans was held for the pur

to ratify the nomination of the can

I attend to other important business.
The meeting was called to order by
. Rev. F. Snelgon, chairman of the

and eloquent speech; tending upon
the grand works of the convention
held in Chicogo of which he was a
delegate, and urging all true Re
publican to rally to lhe candidates,
and in securing their election next
November. The next speaker was
Prof. R. R. Wright of Augusta, who
filled the hearts of our citizens with
gladsome news, whose eloquent
speech will be with us for days to
come. He fully showed forth the
Democrats folly on tariff reform.
Can we get some more such young
men in our ranks as he? A few en
couraging remarks were also made
by Prof. S. B. Morse of Savannah,
W. 11. Styles, S. Daniel- and others
The nomination of Gen. Harrison of
