CORRESPONDENCE.
Mclntosh. Ga.. Sept. 1, ’BB
To the Republican* of the second
senatorial district;
As you have made me the stand
ard bearer of your p<rty for the
race in this district, I humbly bow
to vour request.
The unity of your convention was
so striking in its approval of me
that! could not retuse to accept
the nomination, trusting that, I
shall have the support of al) and the
co-operation of every Republican
in the district. For the entire sup
port of every one of you is our only
nope of sir cess.
The Democrats pave nominated
one Cipt. S. D. Bradwell to oppose
me. So far as the mar. is concern
I must acknowledge he is a perfect
gentleman. But remember he re
presents admirably the Democrat
party ard imbibes freely all their
oentiinents; so you you can hope to
gain nothing by sustaining him in
this pending conflict, therefore it
you expect to gain anything yuu
mnst support your own party in the
person of its nominee, if for no oth
er reason than that be is of your
own race. The Democrats will at
tempt to delude you by saying “the
Negro can do nothing in the Legis
lature and you need not send mm
there,” but tell them that he repre
sents my color and can vote iu our
interest when called upon aud that
is for more than the Democrat uoin
inee will do for us if we vote for
him. In proof of this they have al
ready voted to take mi our SB,OOO
from the Atlanta University which
was given ua by th* United btates
government, hoping thereby to
doom us to eternal ignorance, and
many other such things have they
done against us simply because we
are Negroes. You should send
your own Republican nominee to
retain the $8,000; to protest against
the late school law which has result
ed in turning so many thousands of
Our children out of the free schools;
to elamor for a school of technolo
gy as the whites have suppoited by
the State’s public funds, where our
boys and girls may be taught carp
entry, machinery, sewing, and such
other things which would serve to
make us more intelligent and inde
pendent; to try to lengthen our pub
lie school term three to six and nine
months; to reform the “infamous
chain gang system winch is the
greatest organized system of misery
and curse m Georgia; and to louk
after the common weal of our whole
people, poor white and colored. I
have no tear of the verdict you will
render on the 3rd day of (Jciober.
We only beg a lair count and honor
able dealing of the Democrats. I
earnestly request that every Repub
lican see io it that they do have a
fair count, and I further advise you
to have a representative on the
. managing staff at every precinct,
Thanking you for the confidence
placed iu me; 1 am yours Obedient

Editor Tribune; Dear Sir.—lt
ha- been some time since you have
heard from this place. In the inter
est of th-* Negro we are brought to
the front again, and ask to be heard
through the Tribune. The Dodge;
county jury box lynch law recently ;
executed at Eastman, is and ever i
will be a disgrace to the common
wealth of Georgia for years. This
denial of the Negroes’ citizenship
by some of Dodge county’s white
law makers and brokers by destroy
ing the late revised jury boxes and
hung their contents in a blaze of
fire, just because colored men’s
names wore placed therein a* jurors
This act alone teaches colored men
how to vote the Democratic ti< ket.
Their white neighbors only appre
ciate hem ns toi ls and not as law
abiding and qualified citizens. God
only knows for what some of the
revisers were in the mob. Look
well colored brethren and act slow,
but to the Due point of Negro ele
vation. Yours for the cause of
humanity. C. M. Sullivan.
