Senator Quay’s intention to
keep the National Republican
Committee in active existence dur
ing the next four years is a good
one. The committee consists of
some of the'beat men in the party
It has gained experience in one of
the greatest of Presidential cam

arise in the Congressional contea
before the next Presidential uara

The Grand Lodge of G. U. 0. of
0. F. of the United States mid Can

Tuesday last. The attendance w*p
large and this session is considered
as one of the most important, ever
held in some years. Matters of un

be brought up for consideration and
it is thought it a proper view is
taken of the subject under discus

the order in the South.
The bill requiring the Governor
, to appoint the County Commission

the Legislature on Monday lust.
We do not believe the new law is
any improvement on the old one.
The right and proper way would
have been to pass a law making
them elected by the people, ns juries
are made up now, a majority of
the people of this comity will have
uo voice io selecting these Com
missioners.

EDITORIAL NOTES.
A trip to Augusta will amply re
pay one for the outlay of time and
money. The city having just pass

life and bustle as if it had not jaet
sustained a loss of a million of dol

of the great disaster, but the people
show no sign of depression, but if
possible are more active mid ener
