\ Strong Man.
Phf Jlelphia has a modern Hercules in
George Bpotman, who stands six feet
. four and a half inches in his stockings
and weighs 873 pounds. He recently
visited a gymnasium, and, stretching out
his arms, told all who could possibly do
•o to jump on his back, arms, shoulders
and head to take a ride. Eight sturdy
und strong men complied with the re
quest, and, holding on to his ears, hair
and collar button, they bore their weight
upon him. He carried them without
much difficulty. He went to the
strength testing scales and pulled up the'
2,000 pound weight with ease. He then
wrapped two straps around his shoulders
and back, and, fastening the ends to
3,200 pounds of iron, calmly raised the
weight and took a promenade around the
hall with his load. As his last act he
hugged a bear so hard that the beast
grunted for mercy.

Eruption of tho Skin Cured.
Brock.vlllb, Ontario, Canada,!
December 2, 1885. )
I have used Brandrbth’s Pills for the past
fifteen years! and think them the beat cathartic
1 and antl-biliou9 remedy known. For some five
years I suffered with an eruption of the skin
that gave me great pain and annoyance. I tried
different blood remedies, but, although gaining
•trength, the itching was unrelieved. I finally
concluded to take a thorough' course of Bran
dreths Pills. I took six each night for four
nights, then five, four, three, two, lessening
each time by one, and then for one month took
i one every night, with the happy result that now
my skin is perfectly clear and has been so ever

Shall Women Be Allowed to Vote?
The question of female suffrage has agitated
the tongues and pens of reformers for many
years, and good arguments have been adduced
for and against it. Many of the softer sex
' could vote intelligently, and many would vote
as their hu-band- did, and give no thought to
the merits of a political issue. They would all
vote for Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription, for
they know it is a boom to their sex. It is un
equaled for the cure of leucorrhea, abnormal
discharges, morning sickness, and the count
less ills to which women are subject. It is the
. only remedy for woman’s peculiar weaknesses
and ailments, sold by druggists, under a posi
tive guarantee from tne manufacturers, that
it will give satisfaction in every case, or money
will be refunded, bee guarantee on wrapper
around bottle.

Does the Farth Really Move ?
Science says that it does, but we cannot help
wondering sometimes if there isn t some mis
take about it, when we see how stubbori ly
I certain old fogies cling to tlieir musty and
i antiquated ideas. It was believed once that
! consumption was incurable, and although it
has been clearly demonstrated that it is not,
thousands of old-time physicians close i heir
eyes and put their hands to their ears and re
fuse to abandon the theory. But for all that
the world moves on, and Dr. Pierce’s Golden
Medical Discovery continues to rescue sulier
ers from consumptives’ graves. It is a sure cure
for this dreaded disease, if taken in time. All
Scrofulous diseases—and consumption is in
cluded iu the list—yield to It.

was reading an article on Etiquette in my in
fallib'e guide entitled, “Before and After the

marriage, let me give you a little advice. Do
not start off like your mother did, to always de
pend on others for her information. Your
mother always says, “Go ask Aunt Jane, she
knows everything.” 'Weil, I am egotistical
enough to admit that I can generally give in
formation on almost every subject that comes up
in the home circle, and yet I will tell you can
didly that every bit of my household knowledge
has been gained from reading Demorest’s
Monthly Magazine. It covers absolutely every
point interesting to a family, and without it I
would be lost for answers to your numerous
questions. Every mother should take it, and
every girl like you, who is contemplating start
ing a new home, should put that down as the
first requisite. May be you think my praise is
too strong. Well! try for yourself. You say
you want a pattern of that jacket I have just
finished. Unfortunately, mine is too large for
you, but I see that W. Jennings Demorest,
publisher of Demorest’s Monthly Magazine, is
offering to send a specimen copy of the Maga

get your pattern for nothing, for each Maga
zine contains a Pattern Order, entitling the
holder to the selection of any pattern in stock
and of any size manufactured. Don’t think by
this that Domorest’s is a Fasliion Magazine, for
it is not. Its fashion department is perfect, as
are all its other departments, but James is as
anxious for its arrival each month as I am my
self. It is simply a perfect Family Magazine
worth ten times the subscription price, which is
only two dollars per year, if you are thinking
of subscribing for a magazine for the coming

Palpitation of the Heart, Gold Feet, Sick and Nervous
Headache, and a hundred other symptoms from whicb
so many thousand ladies suffer are perfectly and per
manently cured. In treating this class of troubles, Dr.
Tucker has had the most remarkable success.
Diseases of M«n.
A large experience in treating diseases peculiar te*
men has enabled Dr. Tucker to perfect % system ot
treatment which never fails to effect a cure wnen di
rections are adhered to. Those who are suffering with
organic weakness, night emissions, loes of power,
nervous debility, irritable disposition, aversion to so
ciety, weakness in the back, loss of muscular power*
dimness of vision, melancholy, epilepsy, impaired
memory and a general flagging of all the vital powers
induced by youthful indiscretion, or the excesses ox
maturer years, are speedily, thoroughly and perma
nently cured. All letters are answered in plain envel
opes. and the medicine is sent securely sealed, so no
one will suspect its contents,
Diseases of the Liver, Kidacy and Diges
tive Organs
So remarkably prevalent throughout this section of
country, producing such symptoms as pale and sallow
complexion, billions or sick headache, bitter taste ix>
the mouth, coated tongue, hacking coughs, skin dry
and harsh, puffiness under the eyes, urine frequently
scanty and high colored, at other times very free and
colorless, often producing a s-calding sensation when
voided, and depositing a sediment on standing. Often,
there is great depression of spirits, with h feeling of
impending trouble. The stomach impaired, with ir
regularity of appetite, flatulency with acid eructations*,
bowels costive, with occasionnl diarrhoea. Circulation
Sluggish, feet and hands often cold, vertigo aud palpi
tions of the heart, sleeplessness, and a thousand other
symptoms too numerous to mention.
Files and Fistula
and other diseases of the rectum, such as fissure uni
ration, polypus, etc., have been treated for many
years by Dr. Tucker, without failure to cure m a single
case where a fair trial has been given. No knife is used
and the treatment is not painful, never confining a
patient to the honse.
Treating Patients by Correspondence.
Ry his original system of diagnosis it is rarely neces
sary for Dr. Tucker to see his patients. Many patients
can be better treated that way than by meeting the
physician direct. A va*t experience has taught the
doctor that it is always best to let the patient describe
ths malady in his or her own language. After receiving
and considering such a history, if he does not fully un
derstand the case, he will ask sue further questions
as may be ne< essary to a full understanding of the case.
Patients should always give age, sex. married ox
single, complexion, height, present and former weighi
(as near as possible) and occupat on. Follow this with
histo y of case in your own language, giving all particu
lars and symptoms, inclosing. stamp for reply. Ad
