was largely attended and the
minister and his wife were the
recipients of many useful gifts
After a befitting program, Mrs
M L. Hobbs, supervisor of the
missionary department of the
.South Savannah district, and
Mrs. Myrtle Johnson made pre¬
sentations to Rev. and Mrs
Lampkin in behalf of the mem-
bet.ship. paying tribute to the
couple for the hard work they
have done leading ths commu-
ii.ty to success.
Sunday afternoon the Usher
Board was organized at the

and George Mitchell being
elected president and vice pres¬
ident.

at which time the program for

Sunday school opened at the
usual hour With acting Supt
Robert Feelings in charge. At
night there was a program ir,
which the junior choir was in
charge. This choir has recent¬
ly been organized. Rev. C. J.

Rev. Anderson resigned the
pastorate last week following
several court suits, and thus
tranquility was restored and
the church restored to its '

turned from a two-weeks’ visit
to Florida, Rev. Robinson and

Second Baptist Church
The regular services of the
Second Baptist church were
held at ' 11 o’clock, at which
time commuif on was served
The sermon was preached by
Rev. Blanton Black, subject,
“Labors for Christ.” On the
4th Sunday in March a unique
program will be presented, at
which time the unveiling of
Gie Mary Ellen Richardson tab¬
let will be held Sunday school
let flrill be held. The Sunday
school is sponsoring Mrs. Hat¬
tie Belle Butler in a recital on
March 7. The BTU was inter¬
esting last Sunday.
Tremont Ushers
Tremont Temple Usher Board
No. 1 met Feb. 9 with the pres¬
ident in charge. Three new
members were added to the
board, Mrs. Dorothy Taylor,
Mrs. Lizzie Mae Green and
Bro. Richard Williams. Next
meeting will be at the church.

April 4 will be designated J. S.
Clark day in Louisiana in hon¬
or of the late Dr. J. S. Clark,
pioneer Negro educator. Dr-
Clark was the first Negro to
become president of a land
grant college and former head,
of Southern university.
A drive for $10,000 has been
launched to build a permanent
memorial to Dr. Clark.
Plans to build the memorial
were started by the Southern,
University Alumni federation
last year in a meeting at the
home of the president of the
group, J. F. White, Winsboro
La.
Schools throughout the state
will observe Clark day.
