TO BE HELD AT
STATE COLLEGE
The faculty of the Alfred E.
Beach Adult Education Center
is working cooperatively with
the Department of Education
at .savannah State college in
sponsoring an Adult Education
seminar which will be held at
Savannah State college, Friday,
March 5.
This project will include other
adult education teachers in the
sate. The principal syeaker will
be Dr. W. E. Pafford, direcor of
field services tor the State
Department of Education. Oth¬
er highlights of the program
will include a panel discussion
centered around problems in
Adult Education. Participants
on this panel will be Adult
Education teachers from vari¬
ous areas in Georgia.
The theme of the seminar is
Makmg 1 he Adult Education
Program Meaningful.” This is
the iirst such opportunity for
adult education teachers to
share information, experiences
and techniques in the interest
of an improved program.
The planning committee is
composed of Dr. Calvin L. Kiah,

Mr. Stanley Whittley T. B. repre-
sentative, will show a movie on
Tuberculosis to the students, teach¬
ers and parents of the school. The
campaign has begun and we are
working to get a record crowd for
chest X-Rays on that day.
Mrs. V. Taylor Lawe’s third
grade class gave a thrilling and
unique program in assembly last
week. They dramatized the life
of Stephen Foster with songs and
literature. The group gave a splen¬
did performance. They sang
Swanee River, Old Black Joe, Oh!
Susanna, Jeanie With the Light
Brown Hair, Nelly Bly and Beau¬
tiful Dreamer.”

are keeping a daily record of
outside and room temperatures.

classrooms from the boiler
room.
The assembly program which

teachers. A playlet, “Miss

ly as “cute” in full costume as
they danced “The Minuet.”

than Mrs. Zeigler’s third grad¬
ers over their puppet theater
called “The Wee Playhouse.”
They have just completed stick
puppets ahd are busy drama¬
tizing stories.
Mrs. Wells'’ third grade class
is so proud of the pictures they
made when they visited the
! City Hall and the air base.
| Their trip proved both profit¬
able and entertaining, and they
do not hesitate to tell of their
many wonderful experiences.

Home celebrated Negro History
Week in a series of activities. On
Tuesday, February 9, a general
assembly program was held in the
auditorium. Wednesday, Dean W.
J. Holloway of Savannah State
College, addressed the students and
faculty on the subject ‘The Negro
In Education,” Thursday Dr. R.
T. Griffith, chairman of the de¬
partment of science at Savannah
State College, also addressed the
group on the subject, ‘The Negro
in Science” and on Friday a quiz
program was held based on noted
Negro Americans in the fields of
education, politics, science, art, lit¬
erature, music and sports.
The week long observance was

social science, Mrs. A. M. Whit-

final reports were heard by Bishop
Frank Madison Reid. The pageant,
directed by Dr. Henderson S. Dav¬
is, Dean of Theology, Alh-n Uni¬
versity, will close the five day pro¬
gram.
The musical program was intro¬
duced by President S. R. Higgins,
who presented John W. Hunter,
head of the department of music,
Allen University, as the director
of the “College Musical Review.”

ented for final remarks, congrat¬
ulated each artist individually.
